Thank God for Sweden

A review of the 2012 ESC CD.

This year, the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) was organized in Baku, the national capital of Azerbaijan. Perhaps Azerbaijan really is a nice place, but unfortunately the competing songs sucked major time. I'm glad Sweden (who always sends quite impossible songs) finally pulled their act together and sent Loreen, whose cool song and exotic performance brought the house down. Sweden won the contest.

Otherwise, this year's most memorable moment were the Russian grannies from Udmurtia, unfortunately not visible at this CD. Apparently, the oldest one was 87 years old. Could they sing? Naaaah. But they sure looked cute when they baked cookies on stage in a very old-fashioned stove. Buy the DVD if you want some bizarre entertainment...

Most of the other songs, I'm afraid to say, were trash. The Cypriot performance looked suspiciously similar to the Greek ditto, and Norway's act looked like Sweden's song from last year! The ESC could use some new ideas...

Thank God (or was it Heydar Aliyev?) for Loreen.

"Euphoooooria...going up, up, up, uuuuuuup". :D
