| - Where´s the path to Washington DC? I don´t want to miss the inauguration for the world! |
The inauguration of Donald Trump as POTUS is set to happen tomorrow. Let´s see if I got this about right...
Trump promised the Israeli lobby 110% support for Israel´s war in Gaza. Instead, they got a ceasefire agreement which doesn´t seem to dislodge Hamas.
Trump promised opponents of immigration mass deportations. Instead, they will get more speedy deportations of criminal immigrants only, plus continued legal guest worker immigration.
Trump promised (I think) a TikTok ban. Instead, he is now trying to save TikTok from *Biden´s* ban?!
Trump promised the crypto-Russian lobby to end the war in Ukraine in one day (sic). Instead, he now says it may take six months. One of his associates call on Ukraine to conscript more soldiers, another says he wants more sanctions on Russia.
Trump promised the Alt Right to pardon those who participated in J6. Now, Vance is saying that only those who didn´t participate in violent acts will be pardoned.
Trump was widely believed to oppose Mike Johnson and favor Matt Gaetz. Now, Gaetz has left the building, while Johnson is still House Speaker!
However, before even taking office, Trump and/or his associates have triggered real or potential diplomatic rows with the following nations: Denmark, Canada, the United Kingdom, Panama, Nicaragua and Honduras. Note that three of these are close US allies and members of NATO!
Not sure if this counts as real change we can believe in, but I suppose we´ll see.
At least we got more free speech on Facebook, so we can call him out on it, if that´s what we want to do...
Well, I think.
| - Hoppla! |
Liberal gadfly and independent reporter Michael Tracey (once considered something of a MAGA "asset") continues his crusade against the incoming Trump administration, arguing that it isn´t really isolationist.
The pro-Trump cliques in the GOP establishment are just as bellicose and interventionist as the neoconservatives (many of which became Never Trumpers back in 2016). And what about the Donald himself? At what point will MAGA realize that their Messiah, too, is one of the dreaded RINOs of the GOP-e? If you pardon my, ahem, MAGA lingo.
The idea that Trump is somehow fighting the "neocons" is true only in the extremely narrow sense mentioned above: many of the original neocons refused to kiss Trump´s ass and de facto (and sometimes even de jure) regrouped around the Democratic Party instead. But Trump´s actual policies are barely distinguishable from those associated with the neocons.
Here is a key paragraph of Tracey´s essay (linked below):
>>>One of the few permitted critiques of Trump in MAGA/LaLa Land had previously been that Trump was a political novice in the first term, and was beguiled by the wily “neocons” who exploited his youth and inexperience. As facile as that argument was, it at least had the benefit of reflecting some partial reality: Trump indeed had no governing record or long-established political operation. But in 2024, that argument is comically absurd.
>>>Trump singularly dominates the Republican Party more than perhaps any figure in American history, as evidenced by his unprecedented thrice-consecutive presidential nomination. He can pick winners of Republican congressional primaries with a single Truth Social post, and even ousted the chairman of the House Freedom Caucus earlier this year for no apparent reason other than the poor sap’s initial endorsement of Ron DeSantis. He installed his own daughter-in-law to run the Republican National Committee.
>>>By now, he’s had over eight years to assemble a personnel roster that best represents whatever his policy preferences may be — and he has largely assembled a team of “neocons,” if that term had any cognizable meaning, which it doesn’t.
Tracey predicts that the Trump Administration will end up having a worse foreign policy than even the current Biden Administration (which he doesn´t particularly fancy either) by escalating the war in Ukraine, permitting Israel to annex the West Bank and Gaza, and perhaps even launch a bombing campaign against Iran. At least his take on Ukraine is hardly standard orthodoxy.
I suppose we will see soon enough...if we dare looking!
A prediction. Trump will be allowed to go after his personal enemies in the bureaucracy and intelligence services (hence Gaetz as AG and Gabbard as DNI). Everything else will remain the same. Which may or may not be good, depending on your (geo)political preferences.
Let´s synchronize our watches...
This anti-Trump clip takes "anecdotal evidence" to an entirely new level, but since the pollsters clearly fucked up, I suppose I can´t complain, LOL. (I assume the "Trump supporters" in question come from the alternative/RFK Jr camp.)
Also, the content-creator claims that Trump appointed pro-Israeli and pro-Ukrainian war hawks to his cabinet. Really?!
Wow, I löööv the Donald now!
Many Trump speeches shown on YouTube as we speak are really old speeches rebranded "live" to make them seem very recent. They play on constant repeat, and hence may look like real live broadcasts. In other words: they are click bait. Statements by Putin seem to be treated in the same way by certain channels.
The most popular fake live speech by Trump just now is the one linked above, in which the President-Elect promises an all out attack on transgenderism on Day One. Except that the original clip seems to be from January 2023! At least that´s how Forbes Breaking News dates it.
I don´t doubt that this actually is Trump´s official policy on the question. But it´s still intriguing that nobody has noticed that the clip is almost two years old, or that it seems to be his most popular "live speech"...
Some kind of weird lesbian cult is breaking the Internet in the aftermath of Trump´s victory in the US elections. 4B is apparently South Korean, but something tells me the idea (separatist "radical feminism") originally comes from California. Or is it ancient Greece?
Won´t accomplish anything, of course.

It´s not over until it´s over, but...it seems as if Trump is going to win both the popular vote and the electoral college.
This article summarizes how a certain faction of the establishment ("Big Tech") is moving closer to Trump, perhaps for pragmatic reasons, perhaps for others.
An interesting hypothesis, apparently from a CNN commentator. Pro-Trump Breitbart News has decided to highlight his claim that Trump may win the popular vote, but read the fine print! Here is the key paragraph:
>>>He concluded, “On the flip side of that, a potentially good sign for Democrats is: Why is Donald Trump doing so well in the popular vote polls? You can dig down into the state-level polling, and you can see that Donald Trump is doing particularly well in California, Florida, New York and Texas. Of course, none of these states are really on the board at this point.
>>>So Donald Trump may end up gaining in the national popular vote polls, but actually, he’s wasting votes, which could, in fact, lead to a case where Kamala Harris could sneak by in the electoral college by sweeping those Great Lake battleground states, which at this point, are way too close to call, John.”
Riots, anyone?
However...
It just struck me that there is one Great Lake battleground state which Harris may end up losing: Michigan. This due to Jill Stein, Cornel West and - arguably - Kshama Sawant and her Trotskyist outfit Revolutionary Workers. Indeed, Sawant is explicitly campaigning to punish the Democrats for their "pro-Israeli" policy by making Harris lose Michigan to Trump! (Sawant´s group has endorsed Stein.)
So here is a scenario: Trump wins the popular vote, Harris *almost* wins in the electoral college...but for Michigan, which goes to Trump due to potential Dem voters abstaining or supporting Stein instead. The political fall out would be *epic*. Sure hope Stein and Sawant have good security! The rift between the libs and the rad-libs will take *generations* to heal.
Oh, and then there´s always the possibility of a Russian, Chinese or Deep State hack of the grid on election day, Trump being shot the day before, Trump being shot the day *after*, you know, that kind of thing.
I admit that I don´t feel particularly safe anymore. Not even relatively speaking.
Donald Trump may win the popular vote...but lose anyway
Would you buy a used McDonald´s from this guy? I admit that this made me laugh, for good or for worse.
And yes, it really is Donald Trump, who now claims that he worked at McDonald´s "fifteen minutes longer than Kamala"...
Clip from YouTube.
Trump suddenly has a lot of new friends. When Chris Christie turns again, we´ll know for sure The Donald will win.
