Hypercarnivore

- Faint biosignature?!
I´ll show you some faint biosignature, bruh!

So NASA may finally have discovered evidence for life on Mars, but surely *this* is more exciting than some faint biosignatures on Martian rock?

A species of gigantic crocodile-like creatures may have hunted dinosaurs 70 million years ago, only to meet the same fate as their prey when that bloody asteroid struck our God-forsaken planet four million years later...

I suppose it could also make for a good "Jurassic Park" sequel!

Researchers unearthed ancient "hypercarnivore" with a taste for dinosaurs

Lurking in Liberia

Could an unknown (and gruesome) species of crocodile or monitor lizard be lurking in inland Liberia? Cryptozoology blogger Karl Shuker has some ideas about the problematique.

The existence of this cryptid seems unlikely, but it´s interesting to note that the natives don´t consider the gbahali to be supernatural, but just another dangerous animal. My wild guess, offered from the wilds of my armchair, is that the man-eating beast is a misidentified Nile crocodile of extremely large size (a form that would itself be unknown to science).

If a White man with a herpetology degree survives a gbahali attack while lurking in Liberia, we´ll finally know...

The Great Daoist Disharmony

An oversized gavialid crocodilian, which may have feasted on fresh human flesh, was hunted to extinction by said humans, and even ritualistically beheaded. Or so new research suggests.

And yes, it all happened in China. You know, the harmonious Yin-Yang civilization of Daoism and Buddhism...not!

At least we now know where Chinese dragon legends come from. May you live in interesting times...

Off with their heads!

Croc with his head!

Another reason not to visit Australia

A fascinating article about a possible "living fossil" of crocodilian in the Northern Territory of Australia. While there is no hard evidence for the existence of this "cryptid", I´m ready to believe almost anything about the *Australian* fauna, especially its reptile component! If it´s bad, badass and very hungry (or extremely venomous), yepp, it´s Aussie, alright! From Dr Karl Shuker´s cryptozoology blog.

Roaches in the sewers

A review of "MonsterQuest: Gators in the Sewers"

LOL! Another unforgettable turkey episode of "MonsterQuest", which pretends to "scientifically" investigate the (bizarre) rumour that there are alligators in the sewers of New York City.

The brave explorers of the History Channel send in some kind of drone with a camera into the sewage system, only to find...cockroaches. Not being a certified entomologist, I can't really judge, but they did look gigantic to me! For being roaches, that is. Says one of the explorers: "We have established that there is a food source for alligators here".

So gators eat roaches? Yeah, go figure. Besides, I would have thought the recent super-storm over New York have flushed out all the alligators in the sewage pipes...

Getting rid of the Wall Street brokers, might be something else again.

Target practice

A review of the MonsterQuest episode "Killer Crocs"

"They are targeting mankind". That's when I got sceptical, and after another 15 minutes or so, I stopped watching. No, the American crocodile is not "targeting mankind", period. They might take a bite off your beer belly, though. The one you got from watching bad TV shows on History Channel...
