Interesting times

OK, I am getting this right? Most scientists seem to be suggesting (if you read the fine print in the main stream media) that the Omicron variant of COVID-19 is much *less* dangerous than the Delta variant. Indeed, it seems to be much less dangerous than the original COVID-19 virus. Yet, it´s also expected to "completely overwhelm" the health care system. And for that reason, everyone who refuses to take the vaccine (which may not even work against Omicron - this also according to fine print in the main stream media) will be shut out of society: jobs, supermarkets, public transit, diners, pubs, etc. And, of course, Facebook. You might even end up in jail! Unless you live in a country where *everyone* is locked down...again. 

I call bullshit. It´s becoming increasingly clear that the lockdowns, mandates and passports are really about social control. Or, not to put too fine spin on it, repression. Are we to believe that the same neo-liberal governments *who never gave shit about health care before* (unless you could handsomely pay for it) are suddenly going after the evil evilly anti-vaxxers *because they want to save the health care system (and our public health)* from these truly Satanic minions? Not to mention everything else they screwed up for the past 30 year or so...

No, this is an ersatz state of emergency, a form of creeping authoritarian globo-liberalism, by which a dying class (the PMC) is trying to shore up its crumbling system and thereby its power and privilege. COVID is a real pandemic, but it must have been a heaven´s send that it came in 2020, enabling the US Democrats to defeat Trump in the elections, and then try and deflect (or even repress) popular anger at Biden´s failures by using COVID as the perfect excuse. It also created an excuse for both Dems and GOP to transfer billions or trillions to their fat corpocratic donors (the PMC and the corpocracy of course being tight allies). This also explains the (bizarre) tendency of many supposedly radical leftists (including ostensible revolutionaries) to *support* the state of emergency, which atomizes the working class and often disproportionately hits the specially oppressed. The leftists are based in the PMC, and indeed, under a lockdown, the workers and oppressed will become totally dependent on the work-from-home middle class radicals, who will "lobby" the governments to give the downtrodden at least a token slice of the COVID relief pie. Being does indeed determine consciousness. 

The good news is that the repression will fail. How many people are willing to put up with all this BS for another year? Or two years? And how strong is the globo-liberal establishment *really*? The so-called anti-vaxxers won´t go quietly into the night. Let´s hope there is still room for a peaceful, democratic conflict resolution in 2022. Otherwise, there might be an ugly trial by combat...

I long wondered how the old world would end. Fires? Floods? The Great Meteor? A squamous rugose green monster squid with bat wings rising from the ocean? Or some basic bitch combo of all the usual suspects: peak oil, Islamist terrorists, Russian breakaway republics, melting doomsday glaciers, the mysterious disappereance of the honeybees, and a random dude named Donald? (The SWP and Militant aren´t on the list, sorry.) I admit that I didn´t believe globo-liberalism would meet its Waterloo because of a flu epidemic and the refusal of some QAnons to take a vaccine, but I suppose we live in interesting times.

Vad nedanstående visar är ju några andra saker. 

Ett: en stor del av "den nya, dynamiska globala ekonomin" (blä blä) består av pseudo-jobb. För hur kan de där företagen överleva utan att faktiskt, ähum, *göra* något? 

Två: det finns personer som *inte* kan arbeta hemifrån. Arbetarklassen, eller tjänstearbetare. Däremot måste de betala skatt. För att finansiera medelklassens pseudo-jobb? 

Tre: Etablissemanget gjorde ett litet misstag, och inte så lite heller, när de stängde ner samhället för att "bekämpa corona". Systemet kommer snart att vara både avslöjat och bankrutt. 

Det verkar som att revolutionen faktiskt börjar "i vardagen", trots allt.

There will be civil war

Something has changed. The atmosphere has become really, really ugly as of late. Maybe it always was. I mean, the BLM riots were in 2020. The COVID pandemic started even earlier. And the storming of the Capitol was on 6 January (this year). And yet...and yet, it feels that something has changed. I think I spotted this when Kyle Rittenhouse was acquitted of all charges. The reactions of the "liberals" and the left have been truly bizarre. They essentially want to *murder* Trump supporters. The muted media reactions to the terrorist attack in Waukesha, coupled with the somewhat less muted reactions of certain Karenista liberals, point in the same direction. That, and several other developments lately. This is how civil wars start. 

And if that wasn´t enough, there are more and more demands for compulsory vaccination, in both Europe and the United States, which probably wouldn´t even stop the pandemic, while it certainly would infringe on basic democratic rights and constitutional liberties. But above all, it would erode the trust between government and people - such a mandate is probably impossible to enforce anyway, but the fact that the guys upstairs *even tried* might be enough to make the "social contract" evaporate. Note also that the US administration looks weak, and will look even weaker when Biden dies in office, Harris takes over and (if the GOP is succesful in the midterm elections) is forced to govern with a GOP-approved VP chaperon. 

This doesn´t mean that a right-wing insurgency will succeed. I don´t believe the silly "yeah man, we´re armed, man, the left isn´t" meme. Antifa were certainly armed, and the left doesn´t have to be armed, as long as the US military stays loyal to the system. However, I wouldn´t be surprised if a right-wing insurgency in the US *actually happens* during the 2020´s. Perhaps it will be suppressed, in truly bloody fashion, by the US military. What happens then, nobody knows. The formation of a right-wing "IRA" of sorts? It might even be in the interest of a Dem admin to *provoke* such an insurgency, to discredit the GOP and stop Trump from winning the 2024 elections. Otherwise, I can think of a number of possible triggers, from an unexpected Dem win in the 2022 midterms, to a Rittenhouse-like character being executed by the federal government, to mandatory vaccinations combined with adverse effects of said vaccine on a massive scale, or just rumors that this can or has happened. 

The international situation also looks truly menacing. The United States is no longer a superpower, and absolutely not the world´s only superpower, yet is still trying to bluff the Russians and the Chinese with tough talk. Does anyone believe that Biden or Harris would *actually* defend the Ukraine against Russia? Can they even defend Taiwan (probably more important to the US than eastern Ukraine)? What if Putin and Xi calls Biden´s bluff?

Had I been a science fiction writer, I would pen a story about how Kamala overreaches herself in desperation, how this triggers a QAnon-cultic rebellion, and how China uses the ensuing chaos to take Taiwan. On second thoughts, I wouldn´t, since people wouldn´t understand that I´m writing fiction! But sure, perhaps a last chapter involving a nuclear first strike on the US mainland from a North Korean sub sneaking into the San Fransisco Bay might do the trick? I mean, that still sounds too fantastic to ever happen.

Hur många gånger sedan 1970-talet har jag inte hört frasen "det här riskerar bara att spä på politikerföraktet". Har aldrig förstått vilka de var, de där farliga människorna som gick runt och föraktade politiker. Fast *så* många kan det ju inte ha varit. Inte med tanke på att valdeltagandet "när det begav sig" var över nittio procent!

Och nu är det dags igen. Talmannen (vad heter han nu igen?) ballade totalt häromdagen och uttryckte en stark oro över att de kaotiska turerna under superonsdagen (då Magdalena Andersson tillträdde och avgick inom loppet av en arbetsdag) riskerade att...gissa vad...spä på politikerföraktet. Han uttryckte sig inte riktigt så, bokstavligt talat, men det var det han menade.

OK, vänta lite nu...

Det finns *ingenting annat* i Sverige sedan finanskrisen, migrantkrisen, coronakrisen eller energikrisen som skulle kunna sänka de folkvalda politikernas förtroende? Ingenting alls? Säkert? 

Det blir lite konstigt när killarna (och numera en del tjejer också) däruppe reagerar först sedan några riksdagspiruetter kablas ut i direktsändning och får en del välsituerade väljare på rätt sida stan att ta sig lite för pannan. 

De verkar leva i en bubbla däruppe. 

Fast så borde jag ju inte säga. Jag menar, det riskerar ju att spä på politikerföraktet...

Don´t they understand that they could be setting the stage for a quite literal civil war? The Dems had to drop this character from their payroll, but unfortunately I don´t think this is an isolated example...

A "pro-Russian" article from a leftist site accusing the Ukrainian government of escalating the confrontation with Russia by using armed Turkish drones, like the one on the photo above. (World Socalist Web Site isn´t pro-Russian sensu stricto, but frequently comes across that way due to its strong opposition to the US and NATO.) 

I don´t know if the allegations in this article are true, but note the claim that Turkey is said to provide Ukraine with state of the art arms technology. This is curious, since Turkey in many other ways is trying to improve its relation with Russia. Or is that time over? Or are they playing a complex game of Machiavellian 4D chess?

The fun part? Judging by this report, most of the allegations are actually...true. These are elected officials, remember? These backbenchers sound (and act?) worse than Trump on a really bad day! And yes, the problematique seem to be bipartisan in nature.

Meanwhile, there are rumors of a power-struggle between Biden and Harris, Russian troop movements at the Ukrainian border, and a new wave of the COVID pandemic...

Something tells me 2022 will be even less palatable than 2021.
