Bellwether counties

???!!! Scott Carney believes that the Trump campaign stole the 2024 POTUS elections by manipulating the computer software. Some of the counties reporting election results *don´t even exist*. Yes: phantom counties?!

Of course, Trump supporters believe that the large number of (very real) "bellwether counties" switching to Biden in 2020 proves *those* elections were rigged.

Still, fake counties is surely a new one!

Do Your Own Research

So I did my own armchair research a propos the previous blog post "Emerson´s Dogman". I admit I was...stunned.

In New Jersey, a black bear nicknamed Pedals could actually walk permanently on its hind legs, and quite fast too! It was an adaptation to the fact that one of its front paws had been damaged and rendered non-functional. There are also dogs who learned to walk bipedally for similar reasons. They, too, were quite fast.

Bears walking on their hind legs for longer or shorter distances are (surprise) the main suspects in many purported Bigfoot observations. One clip above shows two normal bears in a South Korean safari park standing and even walking bipedally a short distance. But if bears and dogs can walk upright under certain conditions, what about wolves? While there is no scientific evidence for factultative bipedalism among wolves, who´s to say that it´s intrinsically impossible?

Note that there isn´t any particular contradiction between this and the notion that most (perhaps 99%) of Dogman sightings are misidentifications, hallucinations or hoaxes. Obviously, unusual observations of animals will be sensationalized and later mythologized. And in the Internet age, people will end up "seeing" them pretty much everywhere.

The same logic applied to Bigfoot could yield some interesting results. Or speculations...

Emerson´s dogman

OK, this was interesting. Last year, I linked to an article by science blogger Darren Naish, who argued that the US cryptid known as Dogman is fakelore rather than folklore (although I suppose you could see it as emerging folklore). YouTube atheist content-creator Emerson Green begs to differ. A former Skeptic, he is much more open to the unexplained than the average "angry atheist" on the web, who (cough cough) merely lacks a belief in cryptids.

It turns out that Green actually saw a Dogman when he was a teenager roaming the woods of a certain Midwest state. Yes, it actually was Michigan, the traditional folkloric haunt of these creatures. Or was it fakeloric? Green is 100% convinced that the running bipedal creature he observed was physically real and attempts to come up with a kind of minimal explanation, speculating that facultative bipedalism might perhaps exist among canids. In the second link, please read the long comment by "donnievance1942".

As I said: interesting.

PS. My AI must have some kind of safety filter against generating pictures of dogmen or werewolves. After several tries, the system finally created a somewhat believable pic of a werewolf chasing two teenagers in the woods, although it still looks as if the monster is just running ahead of them!

That time I saw a cryptid

Probably not a popular message right now...

Reap the whirlwind

This must be the strangest aspect of the recent US presidential election campaign. Trump managed to convince at least a portion of the Muslim/Arab community in the battleground state of Michigan to vote for him as "the peace candidate".

Note also that Richard Grenell played a prominent role in the Muslim/Arab outreach. I suppose they "forgot" to mention that Grenell is, ahem, gay...

I suppose it´s within the realm of the possible that Trump, whose son-in-law Jared Kushner was instrumental in negotiating the Abraham accords, will tell Israel to cool it, so the accords (the real purpose of which is to encircle Iran) will survive. However, "possible" and "probable" aren´t the same thing.

Besides, Biden and Harris also support the Abraham accords and are more likely to tell Israel to wind down its military actions in Gaza and Lebanon. Or engineer Netanyahu´s ouster in favor of a more "moderate" leader. So it still makes no sense from a "pro-Palestinian" perspective to vote for Trump.

Is the US the only nation in the world were the Jews support the "anti-Israeli" candidates, while the Muslims vote for the "pro-Israeli" one? Amerikwa is crazier than I imagined!

"Genocide Josh"

A recent poll in Pennsylvania suggests that Kamala Harris may have lost the battleground state due to her decision *not* to make Josh Shapiro her running mate.

Maybe.

But would it have helped the Democrats overall to have the pro-Israeli Jew Shapiro as their VP nominee? They might have lost Michigan even faster than they actually did. Even more "progressive leftists" might have stayed away from the elections altogether. Conversely, *really* hardcore supporters of Israel, Jew and Gentile alike, would still have found Trump more to their liking.

So I´m not entirely convinced.

Jill Stein got more votes in some Arab/Muslim-dominated precincts in Michigan than Kamala Harris. From the X account of Kshama Sawant, the leader of the Trotskyist "Revolutionary Workers".

Trump won the state of Michigan very narrowly.

The dark side of Camelot

Michael Tracey (again!) attacks Robert F Kennedy Jr, his father and his uncle in this anti-Camelot extravaganza.

It´s actually quite interesting, whether or not you agree with its conclusions. Also explains the curious shenanigans concerning RFK Jr´s domicile in New York State. And yes, it mentions the peculiar Natural Law Party!

A gadfly like Tracey could have been expected to *support* RFK Jr, which makes the essay doubly interesting.

Uncommitted Super PAC

The first link claims that the Uncommitted movement was really funded by a Democratic Party-connected Super PAC.

The second claims that Rashida Tlaib, who supported the Uncommitted, never explicitly endorsed Harris for president. Tlaib is a Palestinian-American representing Michigan in Congress. She is also a member of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), who don´t explicitly endorse Harris either. But note that Tlaib is still a Democrat.

For reference purposes mostly. In case Michigan becomes the flashpoint of this week´s drama...

A hypothesis

An interesting hypothesis, apparently from a CNN commentator. Pro-Trump Breitbart News has decided to highlight his claim that Trump may win the popular vote, but read the fine print! Here is the key paragraph:

>>>He concluded, “On the flip side of that, a potentially good sign for Democrats is: Why is Donald Trump doing so well in the popular vote polls? You can dig down into the state-level polling, and you can see that Donald Trump is doing particularly well in California, Florida, New York and Texas. Of course, none of these states are really on the board at this point.

>>>So Donald Trump may end up gaining in the national popular vote polls, but actually, he’s wasting votes, which could, in fact, lead to a case where Kamala Harris could sneak by in the electoral college by sweeping those Great Lake battleground states, which at this point, are way too close to call, John.”

Riots, anyone?

However...

It just struck me that there is one Great Lake battleground state which Harris may end up losing: Michigan. This due to Jill Stein, Cornel West and - arguably - Kshama Sawant and her Trotskyist outfit Revolutionary Workers. Indeed, Sawant is explicitly campaigning to punish the Democrats for their "pro-Israeli" policy by making Harris lose Michigan to Trump! (Sawant´s group has endorsed Stein.)

So here is a scenario: Trump wins the popular vote, Harris *almost* wins in the electoral college...but for Michigan, which goes to Trump due to potential Dem voters abstaining or supporting Stein instead. The political fall out would be *epic*. Sure hope Stein and Sawant have good security! The rift between the libs and the rad-libs will take *generations* to heal.

Oh, and then there´s always the possibility of a Russian, Chinese or Deep State hack of the grid on election day, Trump being shot the day before, Trump being shot the day *after*, you know, that kind of thing.

I admit that I don´t feel particularly safe anymore. Not even relatively speaking.

Donald Trump may win the popular vote...but lose anyway

Transing the third period

Sources say that world history always repeats itself three times. The first time as tragedy, the second time as farce, and the third time as burlesque.

The American left are essentially transing the third period. So I suppose this is the burlesque, then!

Trump era or third period?

Socialist Alternative critiques a breakaway faction, Revolutionary Workers (led by Kshama Sawant). Note that the two groups really agree on voting for Jill Stein, but the latter group is more brazen and "third period" about it. I can´t say I care much, but if Trotskyist bickering is your thing, well, welcome to the party!

The case for voting Jill Stein in the Trump era

Why Kamala Harris is losing

The title of this post is click bait, but it seems a large portion of the American left are willing to spoil their votes and risk a Trump victory in order to protest the Democratic Party´s perceived support for the Israeli war in Gaza.

In other words: they see this war as the main axis of politics, both globally and domestically, more important than even stopping Trump (who they still dub a fascist or proto-fascist).

Let´s be honest: it´s an adaptation to certain mercurial middle class layers at US college campuses...

Called it

The Yemeni Muslim mayor of Hamtramck in Michigan has endorsed Trump for president. When the voters of the small town elected a Muslim-majority council in 2015, liberals were initially excited...only to be disappointed when the Muslims banned LGBTQ flags and tried to stop marijuana sales.

When I commented this in 2023, I ironically wondered when the Alt Right would endorse the Muslim council.

Be careful what you wish for, citizen!
