We have a pope...or something

Pro-Trump/pro-Vance Breitbart News tries to cope with the new Woke Pope in the State of Vatican City. See links below! Whatever. 

Personally, I would like to know why Prevost took the papal name Leo XIV. Leo XIII (the Pope most people-in-the-know think about when they hear the name "Leo") is still seen as one of the greatest popes in modern Catholic history (reigned 1878-1903). So choosing *that* name strikes me as...daring. 

Also, what does it tell us about Prevost´s political orientation? Leo XIII could be seen as a cautious reformer. But he could also be seen as radical, since his predecessors on the papal throne were arch-conservative. Leo XIII, by contrast, is associated with "Rerum novarum", the first social encyclical. It inspired the Catholic trade union movement. I read "Rerum novarum" years ago and didn´t find it particularly radical, but in its 1891 Catholic context, maybe it was. So perhaps the name signals that Prevost wants to be explicitly political and even somewhat "radical"?

I suppose we´re about to find out, aren´t we?

Inte vänsterliberal

Det måste vara svårt att vara vänsterliberal. Först ska man stödja muslimernas rätt att bära slöja i Sverige. Och sätta slöjan på småbarn. Sedan ska man stödja protester i Iran mot slöjtvång på kvinnor. Och indirekt mot den islamiska regimen i landet. Och efter det ska alla ha regnbågsfärgade armbindlar under fotbolls-VM i Qatar. För att stödja HBT-rättigheter i detta muslimska land, där det tydligen är förbjudet enligt sharia.

Och sedan ska man fördöma bränningar av Koranen, alltså den religiösa skrift som används för att motivera just slöjtvånget och förbudet mot homosexualitet. Och man ska fördöma denna ”skändning” för att *konservativa* muslimer i x antal länder kräver att vi ska göra det?! Annars får vi typ inte gå med i NATO, och svenska kapitalister kan inte göra affärer i Irak.

Som sagt, det kan inte vara lätt att vara vänsterliberal.

Och det kommer att bli ännu svårare i framtiden, vänta ni bara.

Get woke, go broke

Tony Blair was one of the "New Labour" fakers who begun the bizarre phase of late capitalism we are currently living through, in which neo-liberal "free" market reforms are combined with a "woke" left-liberal culture. But it seems even this old hypocrite is now having second thoughts about it, well! But sure, maybe his recent schwärmerei for the Qatari absolutist monarchy can be squared with some kind of woke-ish pro-Islamism?

What´s really going on here isn´t simply Qatari investments, but the present energy crisis. EU and Germany have struck deals with Qatar about replacing the Russian oil and gas with Liquified Natural Gas (LNG). When push comes to shove, LNG takes precedence over LGBT, it seems. 

I don´t think Qatar is really "pro-Western", but are simply doing some opportunistic gyrations, while flexing their economic muscle, which are indeed considerable. 

That being said, sure, if the only alternative to buying LNG from Al-Jazeera´s finest is to freeze to death in a Russospherian People´s Republic, I take the LNG anytime!
