So the United States voted "no" to a pro-Ukrainian resolution at the UN General Assembly. Other nations voting "no" included Russia, Belarus, North Korea, Nicaragua and Hungary. But also Israel - probably because Netanyahu doesn´t want to anger Trump in case the war against Hamas flares up again (which it most certainly will). 

Later, the UN Security Council adopted a "neutral" resolution on the Ukrainian war introduced by the United States. My understanding is that France and the UK (which have veto powers) simply abstained from voting, rather than pick an *actual* fight with the Trump administration. This is obviously significant, since the Security Council is the where the real decisions are made (as far as the UN is concerned). 

It seems the *really* real decisions will be made during talks between Trump and Putin god knows where...    

Storm Shadow

 

So it´s official now. Ukraine has used both American ATACMS missiles and UK Storm Shadow dittos to target military bases on recognized Russian territory. 

As already mentioned, Moscow has changed its nuclear doctrine, threatening everyone who attacks the Russian Federation and its allies (and presumably its occupied territories!) in the way Ukraine just did with nuclear retaliation. 

The only ally explictly mentioned is Belarus, but it does raise questions about what would happen during a shooting war between, say, North Korea and South Korea...

The 2012 Olympic Games in London have been dubbed "the dirtiest ever". Still today, 12 years later, athletes are being retrospectively disqualified from them! Indeed, five of the twelve finalists on 1,500 meters for females have gotten their names (and medals) expunged from the rolls. 

I admit I had no idea. 

I remember the 2012 games mostly for the weird tribute to the British NHS in the opening ceremony. Which also played a certain role in conspiracist speculations during the COVID pandemic 2020...

Ja, det stämmer. Men Ryssland är en EBU-medlem som oprovocerat attackerat en annan EBU-medlem. Al-Qassam-brigaderna är så vitt jag vet inte med i EBU. Dessutom har EU infört sanktioner mot Ryssland. Och de flesta EBU-medlemmar är även EU-medlemmar.

Ja, eller rest-Jugoslavien. Detta för att EU hade en kulturbojkott mot det landet p.g.a. dess militära attacker mot Kroatien och Bosnien. Som var EBU-medlemmar.

Eftersom landet är en näst intill öppen diktatur som undertrycker yttrandefriheten, ja. När har Israel gjort det? Hade EBU varit konsekventa hade de suspenderat Ryssland för länge sedan!

A very interesting article from 2019. Also mentions certain salient events in 2015. What makes the piece interesting is that Russia´s hybrid warfare involving migrants was well known (and feared) by the cognoscenti long before the 2021 Belarus border crisis and the 2022 Russian attack on Ukraine. Yet, it went underreported in the mainstream media. 

We all know why.

Schadenfreude

Politisk dynamit? Eller mest bara skadeglädje?

Skadeglädjen är ju den enda sanna glädjen. Nobelfestens "Jimmie moment"? Iran hotar de facto Sverige i samband med Koran-krisen. Och Ryssland och Belarus är de facto fiendenationer, eftersom Sverige är nästan-medlemmar av NATO och skickar pansarskott till ukisarna.

Nobelstiftelsen har skämt ut Sverige. Kanske dags att "nationalisera" den? In more ways than one...

Here´s a scenario.

Let´s assume Russia takes the Suwalki corridor tomorrow morning. They threaten anyone who interfers with *massive* retaliation. Perhaps nukes. The corridor is Lithuanian and Polish territory. It connects the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad with Belarus, a close Russian ally. 

Does anyone seriously believe that NATO will risk a world war over this? I don´t. 

Turkey will be the first to declare that they won´t come to the aid of Poland and Lithuania. Except as "peace-makers", of course. "We can negotiate an agreement with the Russians". Turkey also happens to have the second largest military of any NATO member-state.

Then, Germany will fold. They never wanted the present war to begin with. Next, France. They always wanted to get rid of the Americans anyway. 

What will the United States do then? Exactly. As in exactly nothing. Sure, they will move some troops to Lithuania. But they won´t actually *do* anything...

But now imagine the opposite scenario: NATO bombs and finally destroys the Kerch bridge, which connects Crimea with Russia proper. Does anyone seriously believe that the Russians wouldn´t escalate? They could bomb the port of Constanta in Romania. Or take the Suwalki corridor...

The two sides aren´t equal. Russia is fighting for geopolitical survival. And, of course, domination.

The Western world is fighting for Conchita Wurst.

Men visst, det finns en del att gräva i här. Exempelvis detta: är det inte märkligt att det "pro-muslimska" Sverige plötsligt ger tillstånd till Koranbränningar i muslimskt dominerade förorter under ramadan, organiserade av en utländsk partiledare och rättshaverist? Varför anses Koranbränning plötsligt inte vara "hets mot folkgrupp"? 

Skulle Sverige ge tillstånd till islamister att bränna Talmud i närheten av en synagoga? Eller ge nynazister tillstånd att bränna "Anne Franks dagbok" på samma plats? Vad sägs om att bränna Ukrainas fula jävla flagga utanför Migrationsverket i Sundbyberg? 

Nej, det är ju inte så troligt. Hade jag varit muslim hade jag dragit, ska vi säga, intressanta slutsatser av det inträffade!

Sedan är det ju onekligen också väldigt intressant att de mest våldsamma motdemonstranterna var kriminella gäng, snarare än riktiga islamister. Det väcker också en del frågor. En som aldrig verkar ställas är om islamisterna (eller gamla goda Antifa) faktiskt samarbetar med kriminella? Är inte det enklare att tro än att Putte i Gårdarike ligger bakom? 

Men visst, jag utesluter ingenting. Kan man skicka flyktingar över gränsen till Polen från Belarus i syfte att destabilisera EU, kan man säkert utnyttja kriminella gäng i svenska storstäder. Och naiva lilla Sverige går rätt i fällan...

Både "Ryssland", "Belarus" och "Ukraina" är artificiella skapelser av bolsjevismen. Ukraina är den första skandinaviska statsbildningen i historien. Kievrus är vårt moderland. 

Ja, Roslagens naturliga sydgräns går vid Svarta Havet. 

Därför erkänner jag Gammalsvenskbys självständighetsförklaring och kommer att skicka fredsbevarande vikingar och väringar till Republiken Nya Sverige!  

The dog that didn´t bark

What is it I´m missing? There are over 100,000 Russian troops close to the Ukrainian border in both Russia and Belarus. Even Russia admits that the troops are actually there. The US says that a Russian invasion is (or might be) imminent. 

So why hasn´t Ukraine mobilized its entire military? 

Note also that Biden explicitly says that the US and NATO *won´t* intervene militarily to defend Ukraine against a Russian invasion. Meanwhile, the Ukrainian president Zelensky claims that fears of a Russian invasion are overblown, and asks Biden not to spread panic.

On the one hand, it certainly resembles the build up to a bloody war. On the other hand, there is something eerie and surreal about the whole thing. Wag the dog? Or the dog that didn´t bark...

War or war scare? Either way, it´s almost symbolic of our times that the United States warns of a Russian invasion of Ukraine at the same time that many nations are lifting their COVID restrictions.

En talande tystnad

Jag är tillräckligt gammal för att komma ihåg när alla kvasi-intellektuella tyckare i massmedia varnade för något det kallade "demokratur". Eller på engelska "illiberal democracy". Puttes regim i Gårdarike var people´s exhibit numero uno, skulle man kunna säga. 

Numera talar man inte längre om "demokratur". En anledning kan ju vara att Ryssland och lillkusinen Belarus inte längre är demokraturer. De är faktiskt diktaturer. Eller "auktoritära regimer", som man brukar säga. Men det intressanta är att man inte använder "demokratur" när man talar om Trump heller. Han sägs kort och gott vilja avskaffa demokratin, punkt. 

Varför har ordet "demokratur" försvunnit från tjattrandet på sociala medier (och den underkategori av sociala medier som kallas "dagstidningar" och "TV")? 

Jag har en teori...

The end of multi-vectoralism

The pro-Russian blog "The Saker" on Kazakhstan and the recent events there. Argues that Russia had foreknowledge of the attempted insurrection. Kazakhstan, Armenia and Belarus are now even more subordinate to Russia than before, this being a huge defeat for the United States. While I obviously disagree with the fanaticized Greater Russian nationalism of this particular raptor, his analysis is nevertheless interesting. It could even be true - from Putin´s perspective!
