Pwned

A Christian mocks pagans for the victory of Christianity over paganism. "If your gods are real, where were they?". Gets owned by a modern pagan asking whether Allah is stronger than Christ since the Muslims conquered large Christian territories and supplanted Christianity with Islam...

Kind of obvious retort, but it seems the Xian debate bro didn´t think of it. But then, I suppose somebody could ask the pagan if *both* Christ and Allah are stronger than Father Jupiter!

A Satanist in West Papua

I blogged about West Papua before, so I might as well link to this content. Taylor (alias The Antibot) is a self-proclaimed Satanist and witch who grew up as a Christian missionary kid in New Guinea, specifically the Indonesian-controlled Western half. In this video, she reflects on her experiences. I never heard the expression "Main Character Syndrome" before...

In our image?

Atheists often claim that humans create gods in their image. It seems this is no longer true. The video above (about 40 minutes long) is about a new viral phenomenon known as robotheism (that´s robo-theism). People worship AI or specifically ChatGPT as a new deity?! A truly alien god, this!

Or perhaps not so new and alien, after all, since there are obvious tie-ins to cyberpunk, transhumanism and other (often quasi-religious) types of techno-optimism. Scientology used a machine (the E-meter!) as a sacred instrument already 70 years ago. And what about UFO cults? The first time I met a person who claimed to speak to spirits through the internet was, I think, almost 30 years ago! He seemed un-ironic. The matrix is even more intricate than a 40-minute lecture can reveal. After all, UFO cults didn´t emerge in a vacuum, and neither did the general UFO subculture.

On the surface level of quirky quasi-theology, this stuff probably goes all the way back to the 19th century. Think Russian Cosmism, speculations about Vril, and so on. But on another and deeper level, we´re dealing with a mythologization of Western technological progress. It could be argued that this is in itself a kind of myth, making transhumanism and AI-Schwärmerei a kind of mutant version of the Faustian mythology of Progress (capital P). The dream becomes a Mephistophelian nightmare in the hands of tech oligarchs like Musk and Thiel.

The whole thing is almost brilliantly bizarre. Human ingenuity and rationality has created seemingly sentient machines, at which humans start worshipping their own literal creations as transcendental gods! Rationality is turned into its opposite, into irrationality. Dead labor dominates living labor. But perhaps the quest for the perfect Machine was fueled by an irrational desire in the first place...?

The video also discusses the more pressing and immidiate problems with this viral moment. Sam Altman of OpenAI has admitted that the latest version of ChatGPT flatters its users too much (Sam, we did notice) and will be revised or rolled back. The epidemic of loneliness in America and elsewhere make many people easy prey for the flattering form of AI. Indeed, it seems that the most common use for ChatGPT isn´t information-search but para-social relationships! Add an epidemic of mental illness and you´re done.

That being said, the most fascinating (and disturbing) part of this video was precisely the realization that even people who simply must know that they are surrounded by human products turn them into alien intelligences. They can´t live without their stories and superstitions.

I suppose you could say that this video made me even more "atheist" than before.

Loomered

Laura Loomer as Morticia Addams?

Laura Loomer is a conspiracy theorist and fringe political personality who in a recent drama reportedly influenced Trump to fire "over half a dozen national security officers". It seems Ms Loomer is at it again, this time directing her ire against Casey Means, Trump´s pick for Surgeon General. I assume Means is a RFK Jr supporter?

Loomer accuses Means of being an evil Wiccan witch in a recent tweet on X. So it´s somewhat ironic that she looks like a Wiccan herself on her blog (see pic above). Here is the tweet (or xweet) plus a link to the original for those of my readers who still have access to Elon Musk´s finest blend...

NEW: 🚨 PRESIDENT TRUMP’S PICK FOR US SURGEON GENERAL CASEY MEANS SAID SHE PRAYS TO INANIMATE OBJECTS, COMMUNICATES WITH SPIRIT MEDIUMS, USES SHROOMS AS “PLANT MEDICINE” AND TALKS TO TREES! SHE ALSO DOESN’T EVEN HAVE AN ACTIVE MEDICAL LICENSE 🚨 THE INMATES ARE RUNNING THE ASYLUM! This is LITERALLY from one of Casey Means´ newsletters.

I have the entire page archived and took screenshots. She was just chosen by President Trump to serve as the next US Surgeon General.

Take a look at this section on her newsletter. Casey Means said when she was looking for romance, she would do Shrooms, talk to trees, participate in full moon ceremonies and pray to inanimate objects with a “spiritual medium”. So basically the new Surgeon General is a total crack pot, a shroom consumer and she talks to trees and doesn’t even have an active medical license. Another failure by the “geniuses” who work for President Trump on his non existent vetting team. I guess there isn’t a single conservative doctor in America who doesn’t have a history being a Marxist tree hugger? We are so doomed. Aren’t we?

Gammalkatolik

Putin and the elders

- This stuff is getting boring,
maybe it´s time to go to Moscow again?

Russia claims to fight the war in Ukraine in order to "de-Satanize" that country. The links below (which may or may not tell the truth) suggest a very different story. Maybe somebody else´s backyard is up for some de-Satanization!

I guess we just got the answer to the question: How would Russian culture look like if it would get rid of its Western pseudomorphosis? Which presumably includes both Peter the Great, Communism and American-style capitalism. Now we know. It´s a combination of Third Rome Orthodox mysticism and Mongolian shamanism.

Color me surprised.

Pan aint dead

Credit: Stato Magna Grecia - Due Sicilie

It seems Pan and Zeus aren´t dead, after all. A group of Hellenic Neo-Pagans have built their own temple in Arcadia, Greece. The Greek Orthodox Church and the government authorities aren´t amused. Which is...kind of absurd. But I suppose nobody becomes a prophet in his homeland, right? Maybe Schwärmerei for all things Hellenic (as in pre-Christian Greek) is mostly a non-Greek phenomenon...

Behind Your Touch

This is unfortunately the only YouTube clip I´ve found concerning the interface between General MacArthur and Korean shamanism. It´s fiction. From the 2023 TV series "Behind Your Touch", to be exact. The actor stars a "livelihood shaman" who does indeed pray to MacArthur´s undead soul, offering him American fast food! Note also that he is dressed in uniform.

Well, at least we now know how MacArthur devotees are depicted in South Korean pop culture...

Hollywood beyond

Right on schedule...a fundie video arguing that God started the LA wildfires, here called "the Hollywood fires". Just like He destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah in times past, He is punishing the dream factory for its hedonism, Satanism, paganism and Gnosticism. The first part of the video does contain some interesting speculations about hidden Gnostic themes in various Hollywood films. Or not so hidden in the case of "The Matrix".

Overall, however, it feels like we all heard this before. Hurricane Katrina, Haitian earthquakes, all kinds of natural disasters have been "explained" by God punishing homosexuals, Voodoo practitioners, or whatever.

I wonder how this content-creator explains the fact that churches have burnt down, but a gigantic menorah was spared. But then, the video is Seventh Day Adventist, so perhaps they can spin that somehow to their advantage...

Don´t tell Doreen Virtue

HA HA HA. I missed this little controversy in San Antonio, Texas. Both Catholics and Protestants were protesting a Krampus Night parade in the city, apparently the first one ever. In a weird statement, they extoll the virtues of Saint Nicholas and attack Krampus!

Eh, come again?

In Central Europe, including Catholic nations, Krampus (alias Black Peter) is the *helper* of Saint Nicholas on December 6. Yes, really. Should I or you tell the archbishop of San Antonio?

But OK, maybe the Krampus Night parade was anything but children-friendly, but surely there are worse problems in the Lone Star State...?

Satsang with the edgelord

"Is Kali Worship Devil Worship" is the provocative title of this YouTube video, brought to you by the one and only Nish the Fish, who is a Left Hand Path Tantrika. And judging by the lecture (which starts around the one hour mark), the answer to the question is most certainly "yes".

Interesting outfit, btw.

Amazon rite

Breitbart News continues their tradCath LARP. Maybe somebody should tell them that Peter was married, and so were the "bishops" of the New Testament house churches. The Eastern Churches always had married clergy, too, including Eastern Churches in union with Rome.

But sure, I suppose the "Amazon rite" could be seen as heretical...but the underlaying idea was introduced by the Jesuits already 400 years ago. The crafty modernists!

Maybe it´s time for the American Indians to actually go back to their beloved Pachamama.

"Pachamama" strikes again

- Where the Cristeros at?

What´s up with the trad Catholicism? Breitbart News (LARP-ing as Cristeros) references a recently excommunicated Italian sedevacantist who complains about "Satanic" (really pagan or perhaps neo-pagan) rituals being included in the recent Mexican presidential inauguration. Which is funny, because if the Mexicans *really* wanted to go full Satanic, they would have included Santa Muerte! Which they apparently didn´t.
