- Yes, septum ring theory?! |
So the Genesis AI volunteered to give me a stern condemnation of the latest Internet meme, "septum ring theory", when I made the mistake of searching for the meaning of said meme.
But don´t worry. I sat out the "jeans/genes" kerfuffle, and will most certainly sit out this one, too. Come to think of it, maybe I´ll sit out the rest of the decade!
Does South Korea have the world´s strangest "men´s rights movement"? The author of this essay, Richard Hanania, is something of a troll, but his contribution is still interesting as "cultural studies". Is it true? No idea. Feel free to do your own research...
Why does Korea have an under-endowed men´s movement?
Another day, another cult. At least on the YouTube channel "Ready to Harvest"!
The "Jesus Christians" seems to be some kind of super-duper-primitivist Christians who are trying to avoid taking sides in Churchian theological disputes in favor of wholesome communal communistic living. It doesn´t work, of course, the group cherry-picking which parts of the Bible it wants to follow in the usual manner. Note how they stumble rather badly over the Book of Revelation!
Worse, critics charge that the Jesus Christians (founded by an Australian ex-member of...wait for it) is really a cult. At one point, half the members donated kidneys, giving them the non-flattering nickname "the Kidney Cult". At another point, they pretended to dissolve in order to hoodwink the counter-cultists who were supposedly harassing them.
When I first heard about the Jesus Christians (in a very short clip also at "Ready to Harvest"), I assumed we are dealing with a Children of God front operation. OK, Boomer! Or no? It turns out that the founder of the Jesus Christians *is* a former member of the COG (alias Family of Love). The group has re-used COG comics and is trying to fish (without flirting) in the milieu surrounding this rather notorious cult. The main difference seeems to be that the Jesus Christians are anti-sexual puritans rather than cultish hippies.
Doesn´t sound very reassuring, if you ask me.
The second clip is about Mennonites (yes, Mennonites) who are using modern technology and a lot of dollars to spread their conservative brand of Protestantism all across the United States. The third clip (not from "Ready to Harvest") claims that Joseph Smith was one of the archangels in his pre-existence. OK, let me guess, this channel is unabashedly Mormon?
Probably true, but surely this has been a problem (or thing) for a very, very long time? Bread and games, and so forth...
I learned a new term earlier today: "surge prices". I mean, wtf?! Every amusement park (or whatever) which has "surge prices" should be fucking boycotted by the consumers. Eat cake, mothafuckas! Then, pass the necessary legislation...
Unhinged Vtuber (what even *is* a Vtuber?) turns out to be...well, unhinged. An unhinged Vtuber, to be more exact. Not sure why this is even a thing, LOL. We are in the click bait/gossip/pseudo-celebrity corner of YouTube, which usually doesn´t interest me. Parasocial relationship, anyone?
A certain Riro Ron was terminated by her talent agency after sleeping around with the talent manager, creating a "harem" of fanboys, and accepting lavish gifts from at least one of them. Sounds like any celebrity I know, so what is the scandal here, really? The content-creator laughing at her, Mujin, doesn´t seem to think Riro Ron is *that* dangerous either, since he wants to record a live stream with her?!
It seems Riro broke the first rule of VTube by actually showing her real face on social media. And yes, she is cosplaying as her own VTube persona. I suppose that makes her even more parasocial to some people.
Whatever.

I readily admit that I stayed right at home during Black Friday, prefering to do my laundry and browsing YouTube and X...
I might re-emerge on Advent Sunday, though.
I´m old enough to remember a time when we didn´t even have Black Friday in Sweden. Or did I just miss it, due to my perennial non-interest in home electronics?
Now, we have an entire Black Week. And my favorite vendor started it off already this Saturday?! But sure, I ordered a couple of books which I might consider reviewing here...but probably after the Christmas holidays!
The picture above is AI responding to the prompt "Crazy shopper on Black Friday"!
Am I just imagining this or...? During the recent election campaign in the United States, I spotted a number of unrelated ads on YouTube and elsewhere (both English-language and Swedish) featuring actors/models who kind-of-resembled Kamala Harris.
Maybe I just noticed such models (perhaps of an East Indian background?) more due to the elections, but a more interesting possibility is of course that it was quite deliberate!
The first clip is the classic in which crazy quilt cult commander Osho calls democracy "rule by the people, for the people, of the people...but the people are retarded".
The second clip is supposedly an AI-generated commercial for orange juice narrated by a deep fake "Donald Trump"...
Not sure what these clips have in common, and if so why I´m posting them here, but there you go.
PS. The AI account also posted a fake commercial for ice cream featuring Joe Biden!
