Is Avi Loeb "compromised"? It seems he finally decided to debunk a pro-UFO research paper...one that he isn´t behind himself! It just happens to be the Swedish Nordita papers about so-called transients, which (at least at first glance) looks like the best evidence for UFOs ever published. 

"The Angry Astronaut" (the content-creator behind the video linked above) is right that it´s somewhat absurd that Loeb - who makes many "far out" statements - all of a sudden turns skeptic and gives short shrift to Villarroel´s research. My guess is that it isn´t a conspiracy, but simply (un)professional jealousy. Academic politics is a thing even on the fringes, it seems...

If you can discover satellite-like transients on photographic plates from before 1957, why can´t we discover them on plates from after 1957?  Maybe a super-computer could find satellite-like objects which are unaccounted for. As in: their positions and movements don´t correlate with known satellites. 

Perhaps this kind of research could only be conducted in secret by the military, since some of the info might be classified. Even so, the military should make the research.

Or, cough cough, they did it long ago...and stared in wonder.

Seriously though, since YouTube´s popular science mama Sabine Hossenfelder mentions this, the Skeptics must start engaging, sooner or later. At least we´re going to have *some* fun in 2025! I already linked to a Swedish summary of this research, published at the official website of the University of Stockholm.

I can´t really judge the scientific papers themselves (and neither can you, I imagine) but it *is* strange that "transients" compatible with satellites are visible on photographic plates of the night sky several years *before* the Soviets launched Sputnik, the first confirmed (human) satellite. I mean, what the f...

Note the correlation with the 1952 UFO flap over Washington DC. Note also the peculiar connection to nuclear tests. In UFO lore, the aliens are worried about our newly minted nuclear capability and monitor such tests with their flying saucers. 

Unless there is something very wrong with the plates (or the Swedish research team´s coffee), there are only two obvious explanations. Both of which are crazy.
