Angel is rising

 

"Angel Has Fallen" from 2019 is a fascinating American action film. Both it and its 2013 precursor "Olympus Has Fallen" must have looked extremely unrealistic when they were released. The plots of both movies revolve around terrorist attacks and various high level conspiracies. 

In the first movie, North Korean commandos take the US president hostage to force an American military withdrawal from the Korean peninsula. Soon half of the White House goes up in flames! The evil Reds even manage to take over some kind of all-powerful AI system which apparently controls the US nuclear arsenal. "Angel Has Fallen" is even less realistic. This time, a private military contractor tries to kill the POTUS with a drone swarm on behalf of the vice president who wants to start a war with Russia. At another point, an entire hospital is blown sky high. Oh, and there´s the old guy in the wood cabin who single-handedly kills 100+ mercenaries coming right at him?! 

Or *are* they unrealistic? In 2025, both films look like freakin´ documentaries. Obviously because of all the Trump stuff. Or even the anti-Trump ditto. Which brings me to a few peculiar things I noticed about "Angel Has Fallen"...

The film´s president, Allan Trumbull, is obviously a liberal Democrat. I mean, he´s Black (starred by Morgan Freeman, no less). He also comes across as a wise elder statesman. Interestingly, he wants peace with Russia and is seen as a candidate for change. By contrast, the vice president is a war hawk who almost comes across as a stereotypical Republican or Neo-Conservative, including his connections with a powerful private security firm which makes profit by starting new wars.

But please note that in 2019, this would have aligned the fictitious Trumbull with the very real Donald Trump! *He* was seen (rightly or wrongly) as the "peace candidate", indeed, Trump was even accused of "Russian collusion" by...the Democrats. Yes, the Neo-Cons (including Trump´s vice president Mike Pence) were hawks, but so where the main-stream liberal Democrats. That Trumbull is a stand-in for Trump would also explain a weird anomaly in the narrative. The militia (usually seen as far right and pro-Trump) seems to support Trumbull! The mountain militia at the gas station tries to arrest agent Mike Banning (wrongly assuming he tried to kill the president). And Banning´s very own father turns out to be a militia guy and conspiracy theorist. He´s even compared to the Unabomber! Yet, Clay Banning is one of the good guys, eventually siding with his son and de facto with Trumbull.

Note also that the fiery scene at Clay´s shack is really a kind of New World Order conspiracy narrative. The kook in the woods turns out to be right: foreign mercenery soldiers on US soil really do try to take over the federal government and take out the lone truth-teller, who flees with a type-writer and his manifesto...but not before he treats them to a full Rambo-esque extravaganza.

To sum up: "Angel Has Fallen" looks like an extremely strange attempt to synthesize pro-peace left-liberalism with macho daring and even some kind of barely hidden far right themes. I admit I was both intrigued and entertained. I´m still trying to comprehend the New Age fluff during the end credits. Eh?

As far as I understand, James Tabor was the guy who tried to "talk Koresh down" during the siege, attempting to convince him that his Bible interpretation was in error!

1. Joe Biden dies.

2. Kamala Harris appoints Hillary Clinton Secretary of State. 

3. Clinton threatens Russia with war over Ukraine. She is bluffing. The Russians call her bluff by invading Ukraine. The US responds by preparing to attack...Syria and Iran.

4. "The Russian threat" and/or flurona is used as an argument to extend mail-in voting during the mid-term elections of 2022.

5. Thanks to the above, the Democrats win the mid-terms, despite having all-time low popularity figures. 

6. An adventurist right-wing insurrection begins against Dem election fraud. It´s quickly suppressed by the military. 

7. The insurrection will be used to impose a permanent state of emergency until 2024, and to stop Donald Trump from running again. Kamala Harris is elected POTUS after wide-spread and very obvious election fraud.

8. The war against Syria and Iran isn´t going very well...

There will be civil war

Something has changed. The atmosphere has become really, really ugly as of late. Maybe it always was. I mean, the BLM riots were in 2020. The COVID pandemic started even earlier. And the storming of the Capitol was on 6 January (this year). And yet...and yet, it feels that something has changed. I think I spotted this when Kyle Rittenhouse was acquitted of all charges. The reactions of the "liberals" and the left have been truly bizarre. They essentially want to *murder* Trump supporters. The muted media reactions to the terrorist attack in Waukesha, coupled with the somewhat less muted reactions of certain Karenista liberals, point in the same direction. That, and several other developments lately. This is how civil wars start. 

And if that wasn´t enough, there are more and more demands for compulsory vaccination, in both Europe and the United States, which probably wouldn´t even stop the pandemic, while it certainly would infringe on basic democratic rights and constitutional liberties. But above all, it would erode the trust between government and people - such a mandate is probably impossible to enforce anyway, but the fact that the guys upstairs *even tried* might be enough to make the "social contract" evaporate. Note also that the US administration looks weak, and will look even weaker when Biden dies in office, Harris takes over and (if the GOP is succesful in the midterm elections) is forced to govern with a GOP-approved VP chaperon. 

This doesn´t mean that a right-wing insurgency will succeed. I don´t believe the silly "yeah man, we´re armed, man, the left isn´t" meme. Antifa were certainly armed, and the left doesn´t have to be armed, as long as the US military stays loyal to the system. However, I wouldn´t be surprised if a right-wing insurgency in the US *actually happens* during the 2020´s. Perhaps it will be suppressed, in truly bloody fashion, by the US military. What happens then, nobody knows. The formation of a right-wing "IRA" of sorts? It might even be in the interest of a Dem admin to *provoke* such an insurgency, to discredit the GOP and stop Trump from winning the 2024 elections. Otherwise, I can think of a number of possible triggers, from an unexpected Dem win in the 2022 midterms, to a Rittenhouse-like character being executed by the federal government, to mandatory vaccinations combined with adverse effects of said vaccine on a massive scale, or just rumors that this can or has happened. 

The international situation also looks truly menacing. The United States is no longer a superpower, and absolutely not the world´s only superpower, yet is still trying to bluff the Russians and the Chinese with tough talk. Does anyone believe that Biden or Harris would *actually* defend the Ukraine against Russia? Can they even defend Taiwan (probably more important to the US than eastern Ukraine)? What if Putin and Xi calls Biden´s bluff?

Had I been a science fiction writer, I would pen a story about how Kamala overreaches herself in desperation, how this triggers a QAnon-cultic rebellion, and how China uses the ensuing chaos to take Taiwan. On second thoughts, I wouldn´t, since people wouldn´t understand that I´m writing fiction! But sure, perhaps a last chapter involving a nuclear first strike on the US mainland from a North Korean sub sneaking into the San Fransisco Bay might do the trick? I mean, that still sounds too fantastic to ever happen.

Many of the reactions to the Rittenhouse acquittal have a very disturbing quality about them. I mean, how could a person like *this* ever become a staffer of a main line political party? Don´t they understand that they could be setting the stage for a quite literal civil war? The Dems had to drop this character from their payroll, but unfortunately I don´t think this is an isolated example...

The real answer is of course that the Capitol would have been bombed or stormed by the military, and that Trump would have been removed by Pence if he wouldn't have supported the military action.

The WSWS is fast becoming a kind of QAnon of the far left. Or maybe they are just channeling CNN...

The first link below goes to an "MSM" article on QAnon. Judging by this piece, QAnon has morphed from a heterogenous conspiracy milieu to something more resembling an apocalyptic cult.

"The Storm" is Judgement Day, Trump is the Messiah, and even the rhetoric sounds "Christian". Presumably, Pence is Judas and Biden the Anti-Christ.

The article points out that other conspiracy theorists are fed up with QAnon, including Alex Jones (I already linked to his reaction).

It will be interesting (if that's the right word for it) to see what happens when prophecy fails on January 20. The article assume that QAnon will collapse. I'm less sure. Apocalyptic religious movements might just as well continue as before *and even become more active* after their prophecies of impending doom fail to materialize. They just reinterpret their prophecies.

On the other hand, QAnon is (or was?) a milieu rather than a tightly-knit sect or cult, so perhaps their trajectory will be different...

Covert Cadre at the Capitol

The link below goes to an eye witness account of the events on January 6.

A few things stand out. One is that the crowd that gathered outside the Capitol was mostly peaceful. The marchers expected Donald Trump to meet them there! The crowd was multi-ethnic and in festive mood...until the Capitol police started using tear gas on the peaceful protesters. 

The police were vastly outnumbered. At first, no police presence was visible at all from the vantage point of the marchers. 

The march as a whole was unorganized. However, there were distinctive groups among the marchers who were. When many marchers retreated due to the tear gas, these groups tried to stop them, sometimes with heavy handed methods. The eye witness believes these "cadre" wanted to use the crowd as a massive cover for the attempted storming of the Capitol.

Some of the cadre were dressed like ordinary protesters, while others wore uniform-like outfits with distinctive symbols. They were White males of different ages, both young and middle aged.

The storming itself isn't described, since the author didn't observe it. However, he claims that many of the participants (including the guy dressed like a Viking) emerged unscathed and bragged about their exploits to onlookers.

There, the story ends. 

Where the "patriots" tricked into a trap? And what was Donald Trump's role in the events? Maybe we'll get answers soon enough...
