Class War 2024

Here we go again! From an article published in August by the Revolutionary Communists of America (RCA). Note how their name sounds like a pun on the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA). Probably not a co-incidence.

Some crazy quotes [exclamation marks mine]:

>>>Based on their experience of life under capitalism, ever-wider layers of American workers are drawing radical conclusions. Alongside the many millions who already identify as communists [!!], there are millions of others who reject both ruling-class parties and want to see the entire system overthrown [!!].

>>>The aim of the Class War 2024 campaign is to connect with that mood and equip the communist generation with the political tools it needs to begin sinking roots in every workplace, on every campus, and in every working-class neighbourhood.

>>>As a result, poll after poll reveals a widespread rejection of the ruling institutions of US capitalism, including its twin political parties.

>>>Last year, Gallup reported that a record 63% of US adults believe “a third major party is needed” because they don’t feel represented by either the Democrats or Republicans.

>>>In May, a poll conducted by Siena College Research Institute found that 69% of registered voters believe the US political and economic system needs “major changes” or “needs to be torn down entirely.”

>>>A Trump victory would unleash a mass wave of struggle and open big opportunities for the communists [!!]. He cannot deliver a better life for the working class, and those who vote for him will eventually be very disappointed.

>>>We must raise our banner and spread our programme by every means at our disposal. Class-conscious workers are everywhere; the only limits on our ability to find and discuss with them are the limits of our own boldness and creativity [!!].

>>>Canvassing, door-knocking, selling The Communist, postering, stickering, social media, public events, street rallies, picnics, breakroom meetings, campus tabling, leafleting, yard signs, flyering doorsteps, doormats, and windshield wipers are all valid tactics. [!!!]

>>>Despite the renewed pressure to back the party of the class enemy, a colossal undercurrent of class anger lies just beneath the surface, and the objective conditions for such a campaign have never [!!!] been more favourable.

>>>History is calling on the communist generation to step forward and show what genuine class politics looks like.

Translation: We are a Communist organization with the correct revolutionary program, have no idea where the millions of communists actually are, but will surely find them through stickers and flyers under doormats. How on earth is this not a religious cult? Or at the very least a quasi-Healyite LARP?

I also link to an entertaining article on pop star Taylor Swift...

I sometimes read stuff like this. Don´t ask me why. In the links below, a small and sectarian Trotskyist faction (the Internationalist Group) punches on a somewhat larger but equally sectarian Trotskyist faction (the Revolutionary Communists of America). Since I blogged about the latter outfit several times before, I might as well continue!

I kind-of-agree with one aspect of the polemic: the international tendency the RCA are in solidarity with, known as the RCI, really has flip-flopped politically in quite a dramatic fashion. So has the RCA themselves. From critical support to Bernie Sanders (or at least the movement around him) and attempts to influence the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) to a kind of bizarre hyper-activism for "Communism" pure and simple.

In left-wing radical politics, this kind of "street recruitment" strategy usually doesn´t work, except for shorter periods, after which the organization collapses back to its small membership numbers as the new recruits grow tired of the cultic super-activism and simply leave. This is especially the case if the street recruitment itself *is* the program. Those familiar with the far left may know about the "Healyites" and "Northites". And yes, the RCI seems to be on exactly this trajectory.

Not that I care, to be honest, but it´s fascinating to see how the far left makes the same mistakes, over and over again, decade after decade. It´s almost as if they don´t really want to succeed...

Of course, the Internationalist Group won´t succeed either. But we knew that already.

Simple as

Overheard on the website of the Revolutionary Communist International:

>>>In another dramatic twist in US politics, Joe Biden has ended his reelection campaign. His likely successor, Kamala Harris, is yet another devotee of capitalism, and is unlikely to beat Trump in November. The only way forward is to build a mass communist party.

I mean, what could be simpler, right?

Communist Cell Starter Pack?!

Credit: Wellred Books

Can be yours for only 15 pounds!

From the Manifesto of the "International Marxist Tendency´s" latest little recruitment campaign at the fringes of the official Communist movement (emphasis added):

>>>In its day, capitalism succeeded in developing industry, agriculture, science, and technique to a level undreamed of in the past. In so doing, it was unconsciously laying the material foundations for a future classless society. But now this has reached its limits, and everything is turning into its opposite.

>>>The capitalist system long ago exhausted its historic potential. Unable to carry society further, it has now reached the point of no return. The present crisis is not a normal cyclical crisis of capitalism. It is an existential crisis, expressed not only in the stagnation of the productive forces, but also in a general crisis of culture, morality, politics and religion.

>>>The yawning abyss that separates rich and poor – between obscene wealth in the hands of a few parasites, and poverty, destitution and despair for the great majority of the human race – has never been greater. These are revolting symptoms of the sickness of a society that is rotten ripe for overthrow. Its eventual downfall is inevitable and cannot be avoided.  The world is heading towards an uncertain future characterised by a never-ending cycle of wars, economic collapse and increasing misery.

>>>All the attempts of the bourgeoisie to restore the economic equilibrium only serve to destroy the social and political equilibrium. The bourgeoisie finds itself trapped in a crisis for which it has no solution. That is the key to understanding the present situation.

The above is true, after a fashion.

>>>Lenin explained long ago, however, that there is no such thing as a final crisis of capitalism. Unless it is overthrown, the capitalist system will always recover from even the deepest crisis, albeit at a terrible cost for humanity.

This, emphatically, is *not* true. Not unless you have a very wide definition of "capitalism". So nah, Messrs Trotskyistes, you won´t get a second shot at it. And think of it, you´ll probably never get a first shot at it, either!

BREAKING NOW: TED GRANT TURNING IN HIS GRAVE!!!

Wtf. Has the IMT decided to give up on entryism and become, gulp, another small sect at the outskirts of the organized labor movement? Ted Grant must be turning in his tomb!
