Kafferast

Coffee for everybody

Since I blogged about this character before, I might as well link to these videos. Yes, it´s Tommy Cash from Estonia performing in the recent Eurovision finale from Basel, Switzerland. "Espresso Macchiato" ended third.

Already in February, Cash´s song (performed in faux Italian) provoked the vice president of the Senate of Italy, one Marco Centinaio, to demand his expulsion from the contest. Well, Marco, those of us who are old enough to remember Berlusconi didn´t precisely appreciate his "ironic humor" either, so I say you just have to suffer it! LOL.

The name "Cash" for a coffee-drinking fanatico is actually very apt, due to the recent spike in coffee prices...

Make of this insanity whatever you wish.

Happy days are here again

Wow, the world (and myself) survived Black Monday! It´s already Wednesday here in Sweden. I even found *somewhat* cheaper coffee in the co-operative supermarket...

Bracing myself for the cheap Chinese steel dump or whatever is the next move of the Middle Kingdom in this saga.

Den svarta måndagen

Har sett detta i "mitt" snabbköp också. Gevalia bokstavligt talat slutsålt. Vilken tur att jag fick ett gratis paket från mina föräldrar (!) för flera veckor sedan...

The meme next time

At the moment, it´s apparently Egg Meme Month, but since the coffee prices are going up too, I expect May to be coffee meme season! I don´t eat that many eggs, but as a caffeine junkie of some standing, yeah, I´m getting worried now. I mean, do I have to imbibe more energy drinks instead? Dude.

The meme is from one of JMG´s fora, but he may have picked it up somewhere else.

Feel free

Scott Carney does some digging into the largely unregulated American nutritional supplement industry and finds...exactly what you might expect. And yes, our old friend kratom is part of the picture. Again!

Split the kratom

This is a very short article on the recent Kratom ban. It doesn't say anything we didn't know already. Simon Luria's theory is that “Big Pharma” wants to ban Kratom in order to protect the profits from legal opioid substitutes, while doing secret research on the drug in order to launch Big Pharma-controlled Kratom products when the time is right. Sure, that's perfectly plausible. Of course, another possibility is that the author wants to legalize all drugs, due to libertarian-hedonistic leanings…

Either way, I don't think this little Kindle item was particularly informative.
Only two stars!

High on Kratom

A review of a Kratom pamphlet sold by Amazon, with an unclear title.

I stopped reading this about one-third into the e-book. It's written in incredibly bad English, suggesting that the author's name is a pseudonym. Or maybe he was just high on Kratom? It's obvious that Kratom is a narcotic, making me wonder who is really behind the recent campaign to stop it from being banned in the United States. Let me guess. The same pro-drug liberals as usual? Some of them apparently got tired of the ganja, and decided that Kratom was the way to go instead. Does Kratom help people addicted to heroin and morphine? Maybe, but that simply means it should be a prescription drug. But hey, don't let that stop you from voting Libertarian in 2016!
