Barron's Complete Pet Owner's Manuals are very basic, which some reviewers
find annoying. I don't, but unfortunately the "manuals" (really
booklets) are also very uneven. "Bernese Mountain Dogs" contain a lot
of excellent photos of this Swiss breed, which looks like you expect a dog to
look like (something of a canine Platonic form?). The text, however, is boring,
confusing and badly edited. It also contains weird but unacknowledged jokes. At
one point, the author claims that BMD's can yodel! Come again? Perhaps they
also make excellent fondue or stay neutral in world wars? Sorry, only two stars
for this one, although the previously mentioned pictures deserve four or five.
