It's interesting that “Arn” has so many positive
reviews. Personally, I consider it so-so. But then, I've read the second part
of Jan Guillou's trilogy and part of the third. I suppose I had very high
expectations. Even though I disagree with the peculiar political message (think
macho guys with an attitude who think like SJWs), I found the novels
interesting, to the point of fascinating. Guillou is a good writer and
skillfully weaves together fiction and fact, perhaps a bit too skillfully. The
story is a rad-lib fantasy about a dissident Templar who befriends Saladin and
civilizes medieval Sweden with the help of Muslims. But, as I said, I don't
think the TV series lived up to the expectations some of us had around here.
However, since I don't wish to start a culture war in the middle of the night
(local time), I give “Arn” three stars. God
wills it!
