A review of "A Heretic´s Guide to the Bible" by Chaz Bufe
This is a run-of-the-mill “village atheist” pamphlet
against the Bible (both testaments, but not the Apocrypha), reveling in all the
usual absurd quotations about stoning, witch-burning, eunuchs for the sake of
the kingdom of God, etc. Not very interesting, unless you are a run-of-the-mill
fundamentalist who actually want to stone people (village atheists, say). The
only interesting thing about this production is that the author, Chaz Bufe, is
an anarchist. At one point, he headed the Workers' Solidarity Alliance (WSA), a
small group in sympathy with the anarcho-syndicalist international IWA. Of
course, the anarchist critique of religion has never risen far above the
“bourgeois”-liberal ditto which arguably spawned it. Perhaps somebody should
lend Bufe his copy of Marx' “Theses on Feuerbach”?
