A self-ironic parody...I hope

“Mountain Monsters” is a series aired on Destination America. It's probably intended as sheer entertainment, and comes across as a self-ironic parody of “Finding Bigfoot” and similar monster shows. Well, at least I *hope* it's self-ironic, LOL.

The main characters are bearded “hillbillies” of the usual kind, pretending to investigate various monstrous haunts in the Appalachians and elsewhere. Their investigative techniques turn out to be somewhat unorthodox: storming a supposed Bigfoot lair heavily armed, triangulating the position of a werewolf, trying to catch said werewolf with an enormous steel trap with a goat as bait, actually catching three coyotes in the belief that they are “devil dogs”, and so on… He he he. The clip where they try to attract the Mothman (yes, the Mothman – after all these years!) is another classic.

Not sure how to rate this crazy production (apparently a kind of unofficial spin off to “Monsters and Mysteries in America”), but I somewhat tentatively give it four stars. But yes, you probably need a sense of humour to devour Trapper, Santa Claus, The Rookie and the other indefatigable monster hunters of AIMS (Appalachian Investigators of Mysterious Sightings).
Tally ho!
