Our squatchy ancestors

"Search for the ultimate survivor" is a pretty straightforward documentary about human evolution, emphasizing its somewhat less than straightforward nature. Rather than a neat progression from ape to man, our origins turn out to have been pretty messy, with several different ape-men (pardon the popularized expression) living side by side in different parts of the world.

The most unexpected news is that both modern humans and Neanderthals are descended from a species of giants! Well, almost. Homo heidelbergensis could be over 2 meters tall, and have therefore been nicknamed "Goliath" by the producers. Please don't tell the members of the local tin foil hat brigade! This will make their brains go hay wire. Giants? Nephilim? Starchild? You know the drift.

Otherwise, I don't think I learned anything dramatically new from this production, but since I don't want to sound hay wire, I will give it the OK rating - three stars. And yes, many of the costumes in "Search for the ultimate survivor" would look good on a Bigfoot, LOL.
