Five stars for seventy weeks

M E Brines is a self-published author of everything from steampunk short stories to Bible exegesis. He is a former member of the Society for Psychic Research, and defines himself as libertarian and Christian. I haven't read all his material, but it seems extremely uneven. This is one of his better works, in which he attempts to prove the truth of the Bible by Daniel's famous prophecy of the 70 weeks.

I admit I'm deeply intrigued by the 70 weeks myself, despite not being a Christian (but then, I'm not a materialist either). Daniel's prophecy really does seem to have been fulfilled by Jesus, Paul and the Roman destruction of the Temple in AD 70. A fact not mentioned by Brines is that Orthodox Jews translate the prophecy in exactly the same way as traditional Christians and also believe it refers to events during the 1st century AD, although they (of course) deny that Jesus fulfilled it. Are we in touch with something supersensible here?

Maybe, but this still leaves a lot of questions unanswered, such as why Jesus, Paul and Revelation believed in an imminent apocalypse, prophecies which obviously weren't fulfilled since both we (and the Jews) are still around today…

That being said, I nevertheless give this tract five stars.
