The Flat Earth Society used to be the ultimate fringe
group. Recently, however, a more broad flat earther movement has emerged on the
web, probably because the fringe got tired of Birtherism, Bircherism,
Trutherism, Chemtrailism, Velikovskianism, Transhumanism, Thrive, Zeitgeist
and, ahem, Bernie Sanders.
Meet the new kid on the block! The neo-flat earthers don't seem to be affiliated with the original Flat Earth Society, which may or may not be deeply bemused by recent developments. Apparently, the neo-flatistas are already divided into several competing factions, with "Christian" and New Age wings being prominent. I haven't even begun to unravel the knots of this global (!) movement, but when I get around (!) to it, things around (!) here are going to get just as fun as you think they are...
In the meantime, I offer this review of a "classical" Flat Earth T-shirt with a map of the world as a flat disk. I saw that map already as a kid in a Fortean-type book, and I although I believed in many strange things back then (still do, captain, still do) *this* has never been one of them.
Congratulations!
