A fond childhood memory

For once, I can laugh at one of these hideous "educational" toys, showing various bizarre and frequently deadly microbes in the form of cuddly plush figures.

Well, sort of.

Because, to be honest, a salmonella epidemic is not entertaining. Not very entertaining at all. Just ask just about everyone in my old elementary school, both the kids and the teachers. Virtually everyone (!) caught salmonella from infected egg sauce, served in the school's cantina. Must have been around 1980 or so.

I didn't. In fact, I was one of the few persons in school who didn't. Why? Well, let's just say I was the ugly, stubborn kid who refused to eat the egg sauce, 'cause it looked funny.

From this I draw the conclusion that grown-ups aren't always right, and that the food served in Swedish public schools circa 1980 left a few things to be asked for. I know this refusal to obey The System won't win me any brownie points from my fellow Swedish socialists, but what the heck, there are limits to what a man (or ugly kid) can take!

Besides, salmonella is bourgeois anyway. :P

Thank you, Giant Microbes, for making me relive one of my fondest childhood memories.
