"The Secret Doctrines of Jesus" is a
companion volume to "The Mystical Life of Jesus". Both books are
authored by Harvey Spencer Lewis, Imperator of the AMORC from 1915 until 1939.
AMORC still exists, one of several groups claiming the mantle of the fabled
Rosicrucians. "The Secret Doctrines" is less interesting than
"The Mystical Life". Indeed, the latter book contains both the secret
biography and the equally secret doctrines of Jesus the Christ. The main point of
"The Secret Doctrines" is to prove Biblically that early Christianity
really did have an esoteric message to begin with. Lewis seems to have written
it after his first book had been roundly criticized for failing to present
evidence for its rather startling claims. No evidence is presented here either.
The only thing we learn is that the disciples were secretive, that Jesus spoke
in parables and that Paul's message was a "mystery". In other words,
all the usual stuff. And not very helpful, either.
