Parental advisory

“Little Ophiologist” is the third book of four in a series called “Baby's First Field Guide”. It contains color photos of ten common species of snakes found in North America. The previous two volumes covered birds and butterflies, while the fourth seems to cover mammals.

I'm somewhat skeptical to a children's book about snakes, which portrays these creatures as cool and colorful – some snakes, after all, are extremely dangerous. True, the book does point out that rattlesnakes and copperheads have “venom dangerous to humans”, but that's about it.

I think it would be better to skip snakes entirely from a series of books for kids about approachable animals, or use this item only under strict parental guidance! Otherwise, you're little ophiologist may not get much older…

That being said, the concept as such isn't bad, and I therefore give it the OK rating (three stars).
