This is the fourth season of “Destination Truth”, in
which a team lead by Josh Gates (who reportedly has degrees in both archeology
and drama, a fitting combination!) roams the world in search for evidence of
the paranormal. Most episodes include two investigations: one about ghosts, the
other featuring unknown animals (cryptids). The most peculiar episode was shot
in the Antarctica, where abandoned research stations are supposedly haunted!
Since the real purpose of the show is entertainment, Gates and his team often meet quixotic natives, check out the local markets, roam the countryside in oversized vehicles and in general act as you would expect a bunch of clueless Americans to act when visiting The Rest Of The World. The “evidence” gathered is pretty inconclusive, and as a viewer it's impossible to know whether the ghost hunters really feel the presence of the undead or are simply faking it for the ratings.
But yes, “Destination Truth” (which was extremely popular in its day) does work as lighter entertainment, although I would probably have been more fascinated by this had I been a kid! That being said, I firmly believe there is something out there. If They chose to reveal themselves to Mr Gates, is another question entirely…. ;-)
Three stars.
