A bird in the bush
This book gives a somewhat new spin to John James Audubon's famous bird paintings. Most of Audubon's birds were painted sitting on tree branches. Rather than commenting on the birds, “Audubon: Beyond birds” deals with the plants! Pawpaw, tamarak, shellbark hickory and butternut are some of the trees (or perhaps bushes) covered in this volume, which contains lavish color reproductions of relevant Audubon paintings. And yes, the birds and the squirrels are fully visible, too, so don't you worry. Considering the fact that “the great conservationist” shot and killed all the feathered critters he painted, one shudders at the thought of what he must have done to those magnificent trees...
