"In days to come" is a bizarre book
published in 1957. Attributed to Ashtar, a Space Brother and alien from Venus,
the real author's name was simply given as EPH in the original edition. EPH
stands for Ethel P Hill, arguably the world's oldest UFO contactee. She was 82
years when "In days to come" was published, and around 79 when Ashtar
began communicating with her through automatic writing. Judging by her
background, however, Mrs. Hill was not your average little lady in tennis shoes
interested in harmless metaphysics. With a background in Christianity and
Spiritualism, Hill later established contact with William Dudley Pelley's
movement. In plain English, EPH was a Nazi! Or, at the very least, very, very
right wing.
While most of Ashtar's message to humanity is extremely tedious and boring, a few things do stand out. One is Ashtar's (or rather Hill's) support for McCarthyism, calling for a purge of traitors on all levels of the U.S. administration. Another is Ashtar's pseudo-Biblical language, which sounds almost like an unintentional parody of the KJV. The editor of the on-line edition (who is a sceptic) points out that Ashtar's messages contain the non-existent but KJV-sounding word "thyselves". The message itself sounds like Christian fundamentalism filtered through the language of the UFO contactees. Ashtar is the leader of an alien fleet, comprising about 10 million space brothers working for Jesus Christ, who is currently stationed on Venus. Ashtar and his mighty warriors are charged with the responsibility to cleanse our planet from everything wicked and sinful, before Jesus (referred to as the Commander-in-Chief) returns to establish his kingdom.
Large swaths of Earth have already been marked for destruction, and although Ashtar admonishes humanity to change its ways, it's obvious that he and the aliens intend to interfere in full force. A ferocious war is already being fought on the astral planes surrounding Earth. "Deliberately retrogressive nations" will no longer "cumber the earth". The messages from "Schare" (the alien HQ) become doubly absurd when "Commandant" Ashtar complains about our use of hydrogen bombs, our war-like nature, etc. This from a guy who wants to send most of humanity to kingdom come, and I don't mean Jesus! We also learn that America would have been completely destroyed, had it not been God's chosen. Presumably, Pelley's Silver Legion is therefore safe. Those who survive the apocalypse will, of course, experience a new heaven and a new earth, with abundant food-resources, and so on. All of Earth will be changed through a series of gigantic earthquakes, which will completely revamp the continents. Ashtar (or Hill) uses the term "New Age" to describe this pseudo-Christian millennium. At one point, in something that sounds like a Freudian slip, Ashtar-Hill uses the term "New Regime"!
I can't say I liked these communications from my namesake, and they seem to be pretty unique in a milieu dominated by peaceful, harmless crypto-Theosophists. I suppose the Venusian devil sometimes takes the form of a Silver Shirt of America...
