"Family Guy" is a bizarre animated comedy
series, a kind of evil twin to "The Simpsons". Set in the fictitious
Middle American town of Quahog, it features the Griffins, a dysfunctional
family that makes the Bundys in "Married with Children" look like
productive citizens. The most absurd characters are Stewie, a toddler who
speaks with a haughty British accent, and the talking dog Brian, who ends up
winning "Bachelorette"... Most of the gags in the series lampoon
other TV series or films.
Thank God I don't like "Family Guy". This is the ultimate comedy show for people whose brains have been severely damaged by modern television, so severely that they presumably can't think of anything else. At first, I assumed it was directed at the children of Generation X, but then I noticed references to somewhat obscure pop culture from the 1980's, say, Jagger's and Bowie's "Dancing in the streets", suggesting that the show is directed at...me!
NOOOOOOOO!!!!
As I said, thank God I don't like "Family Guy". At least that shows my GenXer brain hasn't melted completely under the impact of dumbed-down American quasi-entertainment. What a shame I can't say the same for other people in my age cohort...
