An interesting interview about "gusanos" featuring Michael Tracey (the roving reporter who has finally returned to YouTube). Apparently, many Cuban exiles live in New Jersey, Tracey´s home state. The interesting thing about the exile Cuban community in NJ is that they support the Democratic Party. Their politics towards Cuba´s Communist government, however, are roughly similar to those of the more well-known exile community in Florida. Recently, a number of anti-Communist protests were organized by the Cuban exiles in New Jersey, all of them heavily supported by the Democrats. Indeed, four elected mayors from the Democratic Party were featured speakers at the protest rallies.
Tracey further reports that essentially everyone at these rallies openly called for a US military intervention to overthrow the Communist administration in Cuba. His interviewee, a moderate Cuban exile, speculates that if Venezuela sends troops to aid the Cuban government against the recent protests on the island, Biden "must" intervene militarily. Rumors to this effect has been spread in social media. He also reveals that many Cuban exiles in the US want Cuba to become either a US-associated territory á la Puerto Rico, or a US state pure and simple!
