Afghanistan: humiliating US defeat, the return of the Taliban and the threat of civil war

Despite the annoying Marxist-Trotskyist rhetoric (apparently, Marxism can solve Afghanistan´s problems - tell that to the PDPA!), a relatively interesting analysis of the current situation in this Allah-forsaken country. 

It seems Russia, China, India and Iran are all trying to fill the vacuum after the United States. Yes, even the Shia theocracy Iran has established some kind of contacts with the Sunni cultists of the Taliban! Despite this, stability seems a long way off, since the Pashtun-dominated Taliban will almost automatically find themselves in conflict with the Tajik and Uzbek in the northern part of Afghanistan. 

The article also contain interesting info on Pakistan. It seems the US has more or less frozen its relations with their former client in the region, instead giving the American franchise to India. The new cold war between the US and China simply amplifies this tendency even more (India is China´s foremost geopolitical competitor in this particular theatre). 

One thing is certain: Afghanistan will not see peace again in our lifetime...
