Real pop music at last

Yes, I know, it´s the wrong album...

Belinda Carlisle began as a punk rocker, and later co-founded the alternative rock band The Go-Go's. Apparently, some people saw Ms. Carlisle as a "sell out" when she went solo and started singing real pop music.

If so, it was a fortunate fall indeed. Sure, The Go-Go's were good looking, but their music sucked! :D

"The Best of Belinda Volume 1" is a curiously titled greatest hits album released in Europe and Australia in 1992. There is no second volume, so the title is presumably a kind of bragging.

All the songs punks and alternative rockers love to hate are included: "Heaven is a place on earth", "Circle in the sand", "Leave a light on", "Summer rain", "I get weak"... Should I continue? With a volume one like this, we probably don't even need a sequel!

This is an album from a time when pop songs actually had melodies, refrains and recognizable lyrics. Then something happened. The current MTV scene makes my head spin and stomach turn. I mean, where's the *music*?

Belinda Carlisle's songs aren't particularly deep. But yes, pop heaven probably is a place on earth...

;-)
