Call in the Marines!

"Invasive Aquatic Species of Europe. Distribution, Impacts and Management". Such is the title of this collection of technical research papers on invasive species in European waters.

Please meet Coscinodiscus wailessi, the notorious nuisance diatom. Or how about the predatory water flea, alien crayfish or the cryptogenic shipworm? Pesky proto-Caspian amphipods and mysids are invading the inland waters of Lithuania (the Soviet Army has left), while the Pacific carpet clam is on holiday in sunny Italy. Not even the Arctic is spared: the red king crab and the pink salmon have settled there, refusing to leave or bow to the European Union immigration regulations.

OK, this book is both serious and informative - if you are a Lithuanian biology professor.

Don't tell me I didn't warn you! ;-)
