An old library volume?

A review of "The Pictorial Encylopedia of the Animal Kingdom"

This is a Czech book from the 1960's, translated to a string of foreign languages. This is the kind of book they had in public libraries during the 1970's and early 1980's, when I was an elementary school kid. It really is a mostly "pictorial" encyclopaedia of the animal kingdom, with some emphasis on insects and vertebrates. Although the photos are of very good quality, they are mostly in black-and-white. The accompanying text is very short. Perhaps this was state of the art back in 1968, and as a purely pictorial overview, I suppose it still might work, but most people today want more... For leafing only. Four stars for the photo quality. And yes, this is the English-language edition.
