This is an English translation of the first volume of
Mossberg-Nilsson-Persson's classical field guide to mushrooms a/k/a larger
fungi. The original is, of course, Swedish. Mossberg is otherwise best known as
an accomplished illustrator of field guides to flowery plants. His latest work
was published just a few years ago. Field guides to mushrooms get dated pretty
quickly, due to new information on which species are unfit for consumption or
even poisonous, so if you buy this one, do it for artistic purposes only! The
first volume covers all mushrooms which aren't gill mushrooms, such as false
morels, coral fungi, boletes and chanterelles. Yes, the edibility or otherwise
of the “false morel” is constantly being debated around here… If in doubt, just take a pizza!
