Back in its day, “Star Trek: The Voyage Home” was the only bearable Star
Trek motion picture. It includes an alien probe attacking Earth, time travel to
late 20th century San Francisco, nods to the UFO craze, and an eco-warrior
theme. It seems the aliens bent on destroying us want to save the whales!
“The Voyage Home” also features all the usual Star Trek stereotypes: the super-logical Spock trying to become more human, Scotty bragging about his high tech skills, and the Federation Council bending its own laws to let Captain Kirk off the hook from his nth insubordination charges…
Not a bad movie, if you like some lighter entertainment on a rainy afternoon, although the tie-ins to other Star Trek movies might be confusing for those ill versed in the Trekkie universe. But then, that's just a minority subpopulation, right? ;-)
Probably only deserves three stars, but gets four for old times sake.
