A review of the MonsterQuest episode "Super Rats"
Do
rats the size of cats live in the alleyways and tunnels of New York City? The
idea sounds immensely logical, but somehow I doubt it...
Neither exterminators nor scientists have ever found one, and most of the witnesses interviewed in this episode of "MonsterQuest" are confused, homeless vagrants. One of them claims to have seen a gigantic rat that roared like a bear!?
Since rats breed like rats, surely a royal race of rat kings would have been discovered by now? True, it's easy to hide in the tunnels of the Big Apple, but the noxious rodent does need to feed - that's when it starts foraging on *our* turf. We are clearly dealing with misidentification in this case. The first time I saw a dead Norway rat, I was also surprised by its large size. At least from a psychological angle, it felt "large as a cat".
Three stars - for the entertainment value. (Also available at the DVD "MonsterQuest Season 2".)
