A review of the Stalinist flag of Hungary, sold by Amazon. But Confederate flags are banned, ha ha!
If you want to live dangerously, try and fly this
banner in Buda or Pest. Or in Szolnok, for that matter. It's the flag of Mátyás
Rákosi's notoriously repressive Stalinist regime in Hungary (circa 1949 to
1956). Even I, who wasn't even there, yet alone born yet, get a cold shudder
down my spine when I see it. It's slightly sinister. During the 1956 Hungarian
revolution, the rebels tore out the Communist symbol in the center and flew a
“plain” Hungarian tricolor with a hole in the middle! Of course, I suppose flag
burning would have been another option, but perhaps they only did that to
Soviet flags? Today, Magyars and Russians are apparently on the best of terms,
showing what wonders ending an occupation can do…
