Our Muslims?

This is the flag of “Somaliland”, an internationally unrecognized breakaway republic from Somalia. The separatist entity covers pretty much the same area as the British Somaliland protectorate. In 1960, British Somaliland and Italian Somaliland united to form the independent state of Somalia. In 1991, Somaliland broke away from the central government in Mogadishu.

While not officially recognized by anyone, Somaliland has established friendly relations with a number of Western entities, including Wales (!), the UKIP (!!) and the British Commonwealth (which it seeks to join). A Swedish businessman, Mikael Torstensson, acts as advisor to the current president of Somaliland.

I recently read about Somaliland in a special magazine on persecuted Christians, published by a Word of Faith-related outfit. That a charismatic Christian group strongly associated with the United States and Israel writes positively about a Muslim state is, I suppose, interesting. They also promote Torstensson in a manner that makes me suspect that he, too, might be a charismatic.

Ironically, the Somaliland flag is so Islamic that it includes the Shahada (the Muslim profession of faith), giving it a semi-sacred status!

I suppose these Muslims are “ours”…
