This is the flag of Congo-Brazzaville as it looked
like from 1970 to 1992, when the country was a Communist-inspired “people's
republic”. Note the similarity to the Soviet flag, but with different
implements. The ruling party of the Congo was known as the PCT. Yet, there seem
to be some questions regarding how “orthodox” the PCT cadres really were in
their Marxism-Leninism…
In 1973, the corpse of killed coup plotter (and ersatz Maoist) Ange Diawara was put on public display to prevent the rise of a Messianic cult around his personality. After the assassination of Marxist president Ngouabi in 1977, a number of his supporters murdered the Catholic archbishop of Brazzaville, accusing him of using black magic to neutralize Ngouabi's invulnerability to bullets. In 1987, rebel leader Pierre Anga (a former member of the Central Committee of the PCT) was alleged to use magic potions to become invulnerable to government bullets.
