A review of the MonsterQuest episode "Mega Jaws"
The
deep blue sea is probably the best place to search for unknown, gigantic species
of animals. However, I must say that "Mega Jaws" is a real nose dive!
Two really tough guys go diving in Baja California (the Sea of Cortez) in search of a super-sized monster shark known as "The Black Demon". It supposedly swallows sea lions whole, takes bites off whales as dessert, attacks boats and might be a surviving prehistoric predator known as Megalodon.
And then, maybe not. After the usual drama and cliff-hangers, the dream team *does* discover a gigantic shark in the dark waters...only to find out that it's a completely harmless whale-shark! Ooops.
Still, the obviously scripted hunt for Mega Jaws does have enormous entertainment value, and I admit the acting is quite good. Who knows, maybe these heroes of the sea really do believe the Black Demon exists? I admit I wasn't convinced. There's probably more evidence for trolls in my backyard!
Four stars...for the nose dive.
