A "naturalist" explanation of the peculiar Biblical passage about the Giants or Nephilim.
They were not real giants, mind you, but when the primitive Israelites encountered abandoned Bronze Age towns in Canaan, they might have drawn the somewhat hasty conclusion that a vanished race of giants had built them.
Note also the connection to pagan notions, including the demi-god Gilgamesh.
