The Why Files go out on a limb here, pitching a controversial new theory about Neanderthals, signed by a certain Danny Vendramini. His book has the ominous title "Them and Us: How Neanderthal Predation Created Modern Humans".
It was published in 2014. Fill in the blanks concerning why these kinds of speculations might be popular ten years later. I´m not saying AJ & Hecklefish are consciously aware of it, but surely there are parallels to be drawn between "Neanderthal predation" and the Hamas terrorist attacks, the American crime crisis, or the migrant crisis? Or - if you are a liberal - the hordes of Donald J Trump coming out of the dark to eat you!
As for Vendramini´s hypothesis itself, I really have no idea, but it would be fun if, say, Erika of "Gutsick Gibbon" fame could weigh in on this...
