A mysterious personage with a perfect tan, all dressed in black, delivered this message to my doorstep, threatening me with "dire consequences" unless I publish it on my blog. He then vanished in an old Cadillac that looked strangely new, and after this I heard weird humming noises and saw a bright light hovering over a nearby meadow. Yeah, really. So obviously I had to comply with his demand, so here is the message, titled "From the Controllers".
Ever since you were a child, we have been bombarding you with Green environmentalist propaganda. "The time to act is now" (it´s always now), "we only have ten years" (it´s always ten years). Most people are realistic enough to discard this moralistic drivel, freely based on mainstream (now liberal) Protestantism, a secularized version of moralistic-individualistic Pietism, and age-old utopian dreams of a long lost Golden Age which (of course) never existed. Most people disregard it, become productive citizens, go career, and in general go on with their lives. A few, like us, become Controllers. However, there is always a certain percentage in every society that, for reasons that lay beyond this message, can´t cope. They are the perennially discontended, the "dissidents", the malcontents, the ever so slightly crossed, who, if left unchecked, could become a menace to the system, especially since their "alternative visions" (such as they are) are (of course) entirely without merit and foundation.
It is for these people that we have created the Green movement. What you call "environmentalism" IS CONTROLLED OPPOSITION. We control it, indeed, our control has never been a secret. We have always been hiding in plain sight. Big corporations are mega-donors to Green causes. National parks are established by national governments. "Radical" Greens are financed by the European Union, or by some wealthy "philanthropist" or "excentric" billionaire (who really knows exactly what he is doing). Every museum, both private and public, is financed by us, and puts forward exactly the same message. The astounding success of our strategy surprises even ourselves and those above us. This must be the first time in world history that a cause openly financed by the establishment is seen by millions as anti-establishment. Even our friends and supporters see it that way, which simply enhances the impression even more in the eyes of the malcontents it´s supposed to attract.
An idealistic dreamer, a broken pessimist or an ineffective "activist" simply going through the motions with yet another "cause" THREATENS NOBODY and actually makes our system STRONGER by incorporating the opposition into the SPECTACLE. One way it strengthens us is that the controlled opposition is SUPPOSED TO LOSE. Indeed, it´s supposed to take a certain sick pride in constantly losing, yes, it *must* lose in order to keep its unsullied moral purity, thereby attracting another generation of worthless dissenters. The leaders of the "movement" knows it, and therefore *makes sure* that it constantly loses, since winning would (seemingly paradoxically but actually quite logically) make the "revolutionary" current compromised and hence weaken it.
Of course, we have also created an entire network of institutions, foundations, lobby groups, controlled media outlets and "organizations" for those romantics who for some unfathomable reason want to "go further", "become serious about it", "build a broader base", or whatever their excuse is for going career. In this way, they can make a career out of their youthful delusions, while simultaneously creating a bureaucratic cordon sanitaire against the more unruly portions of the Green subculture, i.e. those individuals who for one reason or another haven´t "gotten" it yet (human brains aren´t fully developed until 25 years of age). The institutional apparatus can also suck up the "militants" when they become too old and too "realistic" for street brawls, tree-hugging and similar "activities" (we wrote the manuals).
Green energy, clean coal, wind-mills, electrification, nuclearization, CCD, CBT, whatever...that´s also us. In this way, we can keep the modern, high energy, high demand economy growing, often with the aid of government subsidies and various currency manipulations. We also make sure not to mention the extensive copper mining and rare earth mineral extraction (often using old fashioned contract or slave labor) needed to keep this operation floating (all of it our investments, of course). Sometimes, we even work according to the principles "keep your friends close, and your enemies even closer". ELF and ALF? That was us, too. Ever heard of COINTELPRO? Surely, you didn´t think we wouldn´t use exactly the same methods to control the fringies who think they can break away from the Spectacle? They are *part and parcel* of the circus, since a pseudo-credible terrorist threat is always needed to keep the other "dissidents" in line.
Which they invariably do. Haven´t you noticed something really strange about all these "critics" of civilization and modernity? They all live in the same plush neighborhoods as you, indeed, often in even more up-scale ones. They use the same appliances as you, or even more expensive ones ("Green" energy of course being more expensive than cheap fossil fuels). They talk even less about overpopulation or Chinese economic development than you. Indeed, the only time they do attack China is when we have already done it first, thereby indicating that it´s socially safe and politically required to do so.
Which is how it should be. Even this message, which we demand that your so-called blog publishes, is part of the Spectacle. There are certain reasons, very well thought out, why we have chosen to publish it in May 2021 and on this blog, rather than some other forum. Indeed, since your blog is frequently ironic and trollish, nobody will know what to make of this message and the truth-claims it contains, which is exactly the way we want it. There may be other services we require from you, to be communicated in due time. We will of course be here for more than "only 10 years"...
