Two interesting clips on Muslim and Jewish demonology.
Yes, the clip about Judaism is about our good old friend Lilith, whom we have met a couple of times before on this blog. The clip about Islam discusses the Jinn and is perhaps more interesting to those of us who know the Lilith mythos by heart.
The Jinn are often seen as evil spirits, but it seems that´s a misunderstanding. The Jinn are better seen as daemons (rather than outright demons), fairies or (non-angelic) spiritual beings in general. While humans were created "from clay" and angels "from light", Allah manufactered the jinn "from smokeless fire". Some Jinn are said to be Muslims, others are Christians, Jews or stint as pagan "gods".
But yes, evil or ambivalent Jinn also exist, and Muslim scholars frequently debated each other on whether or not bodily possession by the Jinn was possible. Some Jinn take a female form to seduce human males, others a male form to seduce human females. Sex and even procreation with Jinn is possible, and so is marriage. There are some similarities with the Lilith figure mentioned in the second clip!
Different kind of Muslim exorcism exists, the most orthodox form involving Quranic verses, but the narrator promises to reveal more heterodox versions later during the Halloween season...
All in all, a quite interesting contribution.
