Evo Morales stand-in, heinous Andean capitalista Luis Arce |
I forgot to link to this little gem from 2020. This kind of BS is why nobody in Latin America takes Trotskyism seriously, certainly not in this "pure" version. Had I been a Stalinista, I would have said something really nasty about "Yankee imperialist provocation" and what not, but as it is, I just shake my head. But sure, if the IBT has some kind of fantastic game plan to make a revolution in, ahem, New Zealand, I´m sure Red Aotearoa can somehow come to the aid of the Bolivian working class, rescuing them from the heinous political deviations of "Andean capitalism" (whatever that is exactly).
I´m not holding my breath, though.
"MAS/Arce Election Win in Bolivia: No Victory for Bolivian Working Class"
"Despites its pseudo-socialist credentials, MAS is a bourgeois-nationalist/populist party largely rooted in the indigenous peasant-farmer class, clearly committed to “Andean capitalism” and has nothing to do with socialism. It represents the interests of the more nationally oriented wing of the Bolivian capitalist class seeking a greater degree of autonomy and wiggle room from its most powerful imperialist masters in the United States. While often pursuing different policies from its opponents, MAS unquestionably shares a commitment to capitalist rule and seeks to administer the bourgeois state (not “smash” it) to better achieve its aims."
ReplyDeleteThis is apparently supposed to be a bad thing?
If only Jaruzelski had been able to create a "grossly deformed workers state" on the Altiplano, complete with gay rights and NAMBLA chapters at Siglo XX! To sleep, perchance to dream?
ReplyDeleteBut OK, I suppose the IBT does believe that a socialist-permanent revolution is objectively possible in Bolivia, due to its strong working class. If the elderly Trots in New Zealand can just denounce the left-nationalist political formations in Bolivia long enough, and translate it to Spanish, maybe somebody will finally start to listen?
ReplyDeleteOf course, it has to be in Spanish, since Aymara would be a gross adaptation to petit bourgeois indigenism and Andean capitalism. Also, very important to translate IBT´s 1982 polemic against the Proletarian Workers Orientation Tendency in Oakland, which contains world-historic insights into Trotskyist regroupment strategy!
The revolution has never been more loco.
Another quote:
ReplyDelete"As the long-time Minister of Economy and Public Finance under Morales (from 2006 to 2017 and again in 2019), former banker Arce is a proven and trusted ally of the imperialists. As Morales’s finance minister he played a key role in facilitating investment projects with imperialist powers right up until the November coup itself (e.g., lithium production by German-based energy corporation ACI Group). With MAS once again administering Bolivian capitalism, at least some imperialist companies can look forward to future collaboration."
Once again, how is this a bad thing?
