The Harrowing of Hell

  1. Apparently, we are supposed to celebrate/commemorate the Harrowing of Hell today. Something tells me a new "harrowing" is needed, and not just of Hell. How about hell on Earth?

  2. Brilliant! "So come along now, ye denizens (Saints) of Hell." - JC
Did not know it was on Holy Saturday. Once again, predisposed to assume it's a Catholic thing, which I am (not a thing but...) But the Gospel of Nicodemus and Acts of Pilate? good ol' wiki-dom.

  3. The Harrowing of Hell is never explicitly mentioned in the Bible, although I suppose one could claim that the saints who were resurrected in Jerusalem were the righteous dead harrowed from hell. It seems to be an official or near-official belief among Catholics and Orthodox, though. I never heard US evangelicals mention it, and more liberal Protestants don´t need to mention it, since they tend to think that all good people get to heaven anyway...
