Nothing lost, nothing gained

Jacob blesses his sons

I noticed some of these discrepancies myself even during a rather cursory reading of the Bible, but here they are spelled out in some detail.

Note the claim (probably startling to many) that the "ten lost tribes of Israel" might never have existed. If any "tribe" was "lost" after the Assyrian conquest, only two would have been so, and that probably didn´t happen either!

Note also that the number ten doesn´t add up anyway, since one of the ten tribes lived *south* of Judah and hence couldn´t have been part of any Northern Kingdom...

So that takes care of that, then.

The Twelve (or So) Tribes of Israel

  1. Reminds me of Carlos Suares' book The Cipher of Genesis, how the code of Qabala pertains to Genesis. How did Abram become Abraham? And how naming personages and places has nothing to do with any actual history, not that we know much about the Bronze Age anyway. Beyond that, Suares claims the numeric code in Genesis signifies "living archetypal forces moving within the Universe" (bookleaf text.) A tough one to read through, for me.

  2. Never read it, but many numbers in the Bible simply must be symbolic. The Exodus took 40 years, the reign of many Israelite kings was 40 years, Jesus was in the desert for 40 years, he taught his disciples after the resurrection for 40 days, etc. Also, 70, 12 and 7 are important.

  3. I think 40 equals a complete cycle.
