A Hare Krishna in DC

Trump wants to appoint Tulsi Gabbard to the position of DNI.

Not sure what the Director of National Intelligence really does that the CIA or FBI can´t do themselves, but since Gabbard is (as far as I know) still a member of "Science of Identity", I wouldn´t let her near any classified information. How do we know it won´t end up in the hands of Chris Butler?!

Who, at least according to critics, is a cult leader...

  1. He picked her because she looks good on TV! Of course none of this is funny.

  2. The most interesting claim is that Gabbard supports Israel against Hamas, which would align her position to those of Trump *and* the Indian BJP. But according to Michael Tracey, Gabbard was a critic of Israel during her 2020 campaign. She called for a two-state solution! So this would make Gabbard both "pro-Russian" and pro-Israeli, a relatively unusual position (at least outside India). I think!

Not sure what Trump is playing at. Either he wants hardcore Trumpists at the AG and DNI positions, to help him go after personal adversaries, or it´s his usual tactic of divide-and-rule, appointing people from different factions to the administration. As in 2016, when he appointed both Rhynce Priebus and Steven Bannon to important posts in the WH. His divide-and-rule tactics (which he apparently used already as a bizniz tycoon in NYC during the 1980´s) doesn´t seem to work in politics, however. It usually ends with chaos...

  3. Here are several articles relating to the new administration and probable outcomes. After three I think, the paywall comes up.
