Richard Carrier goes full "crazy cornucopian" here. Hydrogen economy, everything-run-on-nuclear-power, Dyson spheres...you get the picture. Oh, and we can turn Saskatchewan into a bread basket if climate change progresses! Wtf???

What really bothers me though is the approach of Andromeda!
ReplyDeleteSurely it is "cosmic" intercourse! see wikipedia for Andromeda invades our Milky Way!
Welcome back! ;-)
ReplyDeleteWell, the collision between Andromeda and the Milky Way could cause some problems for the Dyson spheres of Mr Richard Carrier, I suppose!
I vote for the Dyson Swarm! But seriously, I thank you for posting the article and enlarging my "sphere" of ideation. I recall that human life is a mere part of organic life on Earth, and as such subject to the whims of the cosmos as suggested by Earth's extinction in 4.5 billion years when the galaxies bang heads.
ReplyDeleteThat the command economy option would in fact merely increase the appetite of power seekers and corruption in general is obvious. So back again to the real issue, "human" nature has not and probably will not change unless what? We all follow Jesus, Buddha or a "son of god" yet to be born? That worked out well for the Inquisitors!
My friend's friend said "one can split the atom into a million billion parts and still find evidence of cruelty, so why not come into the Moment, and Exist?" Even "Star Trek" had problems with the Klingons and other extra terrestrials. Why we all can't just kick back and enjoy life... ah well, who knows what influences burble through our brains. In the end I agree there is no long term self engendered extinction. It is the short term suffering we need to address.
And thanks for the lovely pictures of flowers, mammals and birds.
Wishing you the best of Swedish Spring as I look over my shoulder to the skies! Oh and the end credit scenes of the film 'Don't Look Up' summarized it perfectly!
Thank you!
ReplyDeleteThe spring in Sweden is still *very* chilly. And I haven´t seen "Don´t Look Up".
Varsagod!
