A somewhat peculiar episode of the Why Files, in which AJ decides not to debunk a rather far out alternative history scenario after being contacted by the promoter of said scenario, Timothy Hogan, who is apparently the Grand Master of an independent Masonic Templar order.
The alternative history Hogan promotes in his books and lectures sounds like a combination of many different speculations, weaved together into one unified narrative. The main point is that the Knights Templar were freedom-loving Gnostics of an almost modern-American type who discovered the secrets of Atlantis when digging at Temple Mount in the Holy Land. Think free energy technology, presumably stolen from the Annunaki. A more sensational discovery was an ossuary containing the bones of Jesus and Mary Magdalene! Who presumably weren´t resurrected?
Naturally, the Catholic Church destroyed the Templars, or so they thought, since many of them escaped to Portugal (which really means "Port of the Grail"), Scotland and other places. They built Rosslyn Chapel and discovered America before Columbus...who was a Templar himself. Soon, the the remaining Templars - led by Hogan - will reveal the secrets of Atlantis to the world and we will all be saved.
Well, we´ve been hearing different versions of this tale for some time now and naaaah, I don´t believe it. There may have been something strange about the Templars, who knows, but most of Hogan´s story is either unproven or disproven (although I suppose you could always claim that everything is a conspiracy).
Still, it´s interesting to see into what strange territory the Why Files (and Hecklefish) has strayed lately...
