Maximum evil theodicy
Where is the Spanish Inquisition when you finally need it? :D
Well, finally somebody stood up and asked the question... Could black really be white? Could 2 + 2 really equal 5? Could "God" not exist at all or if he/she/it does could God be so far beyond our comprehension we are left to imagine all sorts of theories, fairy tales and myths about he/she/it/them? Asking for a friend...
Years ago, back at the Occult Bookstore in Chicago (ironically across the street from Holy Name Cathedral) I bought a little volume, part of the World Gospel Series published by The Theosophical Publishing House, Adyar, Madras, India and sold in the US by the TPH in Wheaton, IL, called the Gospel of the Gnostics by Duncan Greenlees, M.A. (Oxon.) This I took as a source of esoteric Christianity, of which I was most interested as a seeker of *something more* than the daily humdrum I was living. Anyway, a most interesting little book which is a "compilation of translations from Syriac, Coptic, and Greek of summarized Gnostic texts." To further the transformation of humanity into Sons of the Light. Heavy stuff for a teenager. The Hymn of Jesus (CH. 6) herein Jesus and the disciples perform a mystic dance was most appealing.

The friend being myself? ;-)
ReplyDeleteOf course Mon ami!
DeleteThe idea of a evil or incompetent god exists within Gnosticism, but of course they believe that the good guy is somewhere beyond that!
